TVC News Nigeria reports on evacuation efforts in Ukraine.
Since the early days of Ukraine’s independence in 1991, the country has been fraught with political and ethnic tension. The Russian military has staged a number of military incursions into Ukrainian territory, most notably in 2014 when Russian troops annexed Crimea and supported separatist rebels in the eastern part of the country. In late February of this year, the Russian military again moved into several cities in Ukraine, this time with 150,000 troops staged along the country’s borders. The incursion has sparked renewed unrest in Ukraine, with thousands of people taking to the streets to protest the Russian military’s presence. The Ukrainian government has also condemned the incursion, with Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman calling it a “direct invasion” by Russia.
