Huawei to aid 100 Nigerian start-ups for 2yrs

At the Huawei Cloud Start-up Summit Nigeria 2024 in Lagos, it was revealed that Huawei Cloud plans to support 100 Nigerian start-up within the next two years. The summit, themed “Unleash the Power of Start-ups”, brought together over 150 industry start-up, venture capitals, and partners to discuss innovation, collaboration, and digital transformation in the start-up ecosystem. During his keynote address, Hugo Hu, the Director of Huawei Cloud, emphasized the importance of collaboration in driving innovation among Nigerian start-ups and shaping the future of the country’s digital economy.

Hu emphasized the growth of the Nigerian start-up scene, noting that while there are abundant opportunities for innovation, there are also obstacles to overcome. These hurdles include technology advancements, securing funding, maintaining data security, and meeting regulatory requirements. He believes that adopting cloud technology is crucial for speeding up the pace of innovation. Huawei Cloud prioritizes building a supportive environment for Nigerian start-ups, offering easy access to cost-effective cloud resources and accelerating their path to seizing business opportunities. We are confident that Huawei Cloud is the optimal solution in Nigeria.

Start-ups will be offered a comprehensive package.

The firm also announced its dedication to supporting 100 Nigerian start-ups in their growth and innovation journey on Huawei Cloud within the next two years. Paul Adigun, the Ecosystem Director at Huawei Cloud Nigeria, announced that the firm’s start-up program will offer a comprehensive package consisting of the advanced cloud platform, mentorship for start-up talent, and essential business tools. Also included in the initiative are top-notch cloud-native infrastructure, expert services, and a generous $150,000 credit voucher to facilitate cloud integration.

As per the statement, the firm is working towards creating a cloud infrastructure for a smarter world by embracing the idea of Everything as a Service. Scheduled to debut in Nigeria in 2024, the Local Cloud venture marks a significant step in the company’s commitment to advancing digital transformation. As the digital revolution continues to gain momentum, Huawei Technologies Company Nigeria Limited is dedicated to developing information communication technology (ICT) skills in Nigeria through collaborations with government, businesses, and educational institutions. Huawei’s various ICT talent initiatives have had a positive impact on over 50,000 individuals in Nigeria.

Equipping the workforce with the necessary skills.

By providing essential training in E-Government, Cyber Security, 5G, Cloud Service, Big Data, and AI, these initiatives have been instrumental in enhancing the digital expertise of the country and equipping the workforce with the necessary skills to navigate the ever-changing digital environment. The Information Communication Technology for Change program successfully imparted these crucial skills to more than 3,000 federal government employees. The Engineering Training program in Nigeria aimed to enhance the skills of ICT professionals in order to foster innovation. It focused on nurturing Nigerian talent in the field of ICT, benefiting a total of 13,399 individuals.

Programs such as the ICT Academy, Seeds for the Future, ICT Job Fair and Competition aim to inspire and empower young people to develop a thriving talent network. In Nigeria, the Huawei ICT Academy has provided training for 162 educators and upskilled over 37,000 students. Additionally, the Seeds for the Future program sends 10 Nigerian students to China annually for a unique opportunity to learn about technology and culture. At the Huawei Job Fair, more than 8,000 students and job seekers had the opportunity to secure job interviews. Of those, 500 individuals received job or internship offers from Huawei and its partners.
