Victor Wembanyama wins 2023/24 NBA Rookie of the award.
San Antonio Spurs’ forward-centre, Victor Wembanyama has beaten Oklahoma City Thunder’s Chet Holmgren and Charlotte Hornets’ Brandon Miller to emerge the unanimous rookie of the year for the 2023/24 NBA season. In perhaps one of the most impressive seasons by a rookie in the league’s history, Wemby became the youngest NBA player, averaging 21 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.9 blocks per game, one of the best for any first year player in the league. He also became the youngest player and one of 15 in NBA history to achieve a 5×5 stat line, when he recorded 27 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, 5 steals and 5 blocks against the LA Lakers. Wembanyama joins David Robinson and Tim Duncan as the three Spurs’ players to win this award.

Manchester United suffers heavy defeat at the Selhurst Park Stadium.
An injury-ravaged Man. United suffered a huge 4-0 defeat against Crystal Palace on Monday evening, their heaviest defeat of the 2023/24 campaign. Forward, Michael Olise who is being linked to a potential move to Old Trafford, was in top form, dazzling through United’s defence to score a beautiful brace. For the first time, Crystal Palace have completed a league double over Manchester United. With 81 goals conceded already and 13 Premier League losses this season, United have suffered the most conceded goals and league losses in its history. Erik ten Hag’s future with the club becomes increasingly at risk.
Minnesota Timberwolves dominant – defeat Denver Nuggets in game 2.
Despite the absence of Rudy Gobert, Timberwolves were able to secure a 106-80 win over NBA defending Champions, the Denver Nuggets to take a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference semifinals. The Minnesota Timberwolves were compact defensively, holding the Nuggets’ stars, Jokic and Jamal Murray to 5 of 20 and 3 of 18 shooting respectively. Offensively, Karl Anthony-Towns and Anthony Edwards scored 27 points each to give the Wolves an important advantage. They will head to Minneapolis for game 3 and four in the best of 7 series with hopes of securing the conference finals early.

Nottingham Forest’s 4-point deduction appeal deemed unsuccessful.
Last month, Nottingham Forest joined Everton as the second PL team to be penalized for breaking the PSR rule. They were ducked 4 points after breaching Premier League’s financial regulations by £34.5 million in the 2022/2023 season which the club immediately appealed against. However, Forest’s appeal to overturn the 4-point deduction has been deemed unsuccessful and the decision of the independent commission will stand. They remain 17th in the Premier League table with 29 points, 3 points above relegation zone with only 2 games left.

Paul George risks free agency after rejecting LA Clippers’ contract offer.
After the Los Angeles Clippers’ first round loss to Dallas Mavericks, the franchise is being hit with another major blow as star player, Paul George has rejected their new contract offer. With the franchise resolved to keep their big three— James Harden, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George together, a pay cut is the only imminent solution and George does not look set to be the guy taking the cut. According to reports, the Clippers have offered multiple contracts which are below the max but Paul George has rejected all these offers and is at risk of entering free agency as a UFA. The Clippers will be hoping to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
