Brazilian defender, Èder Militão has transcended into one of Europe’s most lethal defenders since his €50 million signing from Porto FC in 2019, helping the team win a Champions League, two La Liga titles and one Super Cup, Copa Del Rey and Club World Cup each. With his current contract with the Spanish giant due to expire in 2025, Militão has just signed a new long term contract that will see him stay at the club until 2028. With this new deal, his release clause has received a monumental increase to €1 billion.

Cameroon defeats Gambia 3-2 to secure round of 16 spot in AFCON 2023.
Despite being in danger of an early elimination from the AFCON 2023, Cameroon successfully saved itself a last 16 spot with crucial 3-2 win against Gambia on Tuesday. Gambia looked to be in contention for the second-place contention after coming from behind to take a 2-1 lead after Colley’s 85th minute strike. However, an own goal from Gambia’s James Gomez and a Christopher Wooh’s goal in the last minutes helped Cameroon secure an important win in a thrilling game. Cameroon’s qualification means Algeria and Ghana are finally eliminated and they will now face Nigeria in the last 16 of the tournament.

Tournament underdog, Mauritania made history on Tuesday evening, as they finally won their first ever game at the African Cup of Nations. Mohammed Dellahi scored a 37th minute goal against two-time champions, Algeria to give Mauritania its first ever lead in an African Cup of Nations game. More interestingly, this win was crucial in helping them secure a round of 16 qualification in the tournament, finishing behind Angola and Burkina Faso and qualifying as one of the best losers of the completion.

Senegal beat Guinea to go unbeaten in AFCON 2023 group stage.
Defending champion, Senegal continue their strides in the new AFCON 2023 tournament as they hope to secure another trophy. They started the tournament on a high, defeating Gambia 3-0 in their opening match. They again beat Cameroon 3-1 in the second game, ending their group stage run with a comfortable 2-0 win over Guinea to secure all nine points in the Group D. They are the only team in the tournament that have secured all available points in the group stage.
