The Comptroller of the Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Hussein Ejibunu, has stated that Nigeria’s economy is being undermined by the illegal activities of smugglers. The activities of smugglers are continuously sabotaging Nigeria’s economy by flooding the market with contraband goods. This not only undermines the local businesses who are unable to compete with the cheaper smuggled goods, but also deprives the government of much needed revenue. “These seized items are worth over 750 million naira,” said Hussein Ejibunu while showcasing the contraband. The Comptroller urged the government to do more to crack down on smuggling, saying that it was “severely damaging” the Nigerian economy.
