TVC News Nigeria gives us a report on Dane Peter Nielsen being found guilty in Lagos.
The court’s decision came after a long and difficult trial, during which the defendant was accused of killing his wife and daughter in a fit of rage. The prosecution argued that the defendant had a history of domestic violence and that he had previously threatened to kill his wife. They also argued that the defendant had motive to kill his daughter, as she was the only witness to her mother’s murder. The defense argued that the defendant was not guilty of murder, but rather manslaughter. They argued that the defendant had not intended to kill his wife and daughter, but had acted in the heat of the moment. After careful consideration of all the evidence, the court found the defendant guilty of two counts of murder. The 53-year old defendant was charged on June 13, 2018, with a two-count charge of murder, punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015, which prescribes the death penalty, if convicted.
