Egypt knocked out of 2023 AFCON in epic penalty shootout by DR Congo.
DR Congo have booked their spot in the African Cup of Nations’ Quarter finals, defeating Egypt 8-7 on penalties after a thrilling 1-1 draw. Meschak Elia gave DR Congo the lead in the 37th minute right before Mostafa Mohamed converted a crucial penalty in the extra minutes of the first half. In the extra time, Egypt’s full back, Hamdy Sharaf received a second yellow but Egypt were able to hold off Congo’s threats. In a long penalty shootout, Egypt goalkeeper, Gabaski hit his target off before Lionel Messi scored his penalty to send DR Congo to the last 8.
Guinea scores last minute stunner to defeat Equatorial Guinea.
A last minute header from Mohamed Bayo was sufficient to send Guinea to the AFCON 2023 quarter finals over Equatorial Guinea. In a thrilling game of not-so-many chances, Equatorial Guinea’s top scorer, Emilio Nsue failed to convert an early penalty before Federico Bikoro was handed a straight red card for an unnecessary high tackle on Bayo. Guinea, who created the best chances of the game were later rewarded, as Bayo headed home a cross from Ibrahim Diakité in the 98th minute, leading Guinea to tournament’s last eight where they will face DC Congo.

Days after Liverpool coach, Jürgen Klopp revealed his intention to leave the club at the end of the season, Virgil van Dijk has also cast a huge doubt on his Liverpool future.
