This will most likely mark the beginning of the end to illegal refining in Nigeria.

Reuters gives us a report showing the footage from the aftermath of the explosion.

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to intensify a crackdown on illegal oil refineries, after an explosion in the Niger Delta killed more than 100 people. Buhari said that the government would “go after” the operators of illegal refineries, and that the country would not tolerate such “criminal” activity. He also called on the international community to help Nigeria in its efforts to combat illegal oil refining. The Niger Delta is a region of Nigeria that is particularly prone to oil spills and other environmental disasters. The recent explosion was caused by an illegal oil refinery that was operating in the area. This type of refinery is often called a “bush refinery”, and is typically operated by local communities in order to produce fuel.
