Governor Ugwuanyi has opened the University of Medical and Applied Sciences.

The State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), located in Igbo-Eno, Enugu State, has been given permission to launch by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The license was given to the state governor Ifeanyi Ugwanyi in Abuja by Abubakar Rasheed, executive secretary of the NUC, making it the 219th in the nation. Rasheed expressed his congratulations to Gov. Ugwuanyi and the residents of the state on the creation of the new university. According to him, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have all been informed of the university’s creation.

Enugu is now establishing a medical sciences university alongside three other states. He pointed out that the first is the Ondo State University of Medical Sciences in Ondo, then Bayelsa State University of Medical Sciences, and finally the university in Ebonyi. The governor responded by pointing out that inadequate tertiary institutions, which prevent millions of students from receiving admission each year, are one of the key issues facing the education system. He was optimistic that the public university would effectively solve the issue.

University is one of the notable accomplishments of the Governor.

SUMAS, Igbo-Eno, Enugu State, founded by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s government, has created history. When the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), which the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, the first President of Nigeria, drew to the area, established itself in Nsukka zone (Enugu North Senatorial District), SUMAS is the second university to do so. Before he gave the fifth Adada Lecture, entitled “Leadership, Education, and Inclusive Development,” which was sponsored by the Association of Nsukka Professors (ANP) and sponsored by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Enugu North Senatorial District, Gov. Ugwuanyi unveiled the medical university.

Creating SUMAS is one of the notable accomplishments of Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration that aims to increase access for the teeming youths to high-quality medical university education. The goal is also to improve rural areas, give employment opportunities, and promote economic development for the people of Enugu State and beyond through the delivery of accessible, high-quality healthcare services. The PDP candidate for governor in the state, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, his running mate, Ifeanyi Ossai, the Vice Chancellor of the medical university, Prof. James Ogbonna, and other principal officers were also present at the university’s opening amid the celebration. The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Edward Ubosi, the Chief Judge, Justice Afojulu Raymond Ozoemena, and a representative of Justice Chima Centus

Education builds capacity and increases knowledge.

During the celebration, Governor Ugwuanyi said, “After Zik (Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe), I’m the second person who brought university to Nsukka territory, seeming pleased. The three themes of the topic “Leadership, Education, and Inclusive Development” were merged, according to Gov. Ugwuanyi, who delivered the Adada lecture earlier. He highlighted his administration’s great accomplishments despite the nation’s economic difficulties. The governor claimed that in order to achieve its goals, his administration extensively spent in peace and security, earning Enugu the coveted title as one of the nation’s safest and most tranquil states.

According to Gov. Ugwuanyi, who elaborated on the issue, education empowers people to take advantage of chances, information, and life skills that they need to actualize their potentials. As a result, the intersection between leadership, education, and development cannot be detected or distinguished. One can develop leadership qualities through education because they develop knowledge and capacity. Leadership, education, and growth are so interconnected. Only an educated, resourceful, and properly motivated workforce, which is the result of leadership and education, can produce a productive and viable economy. The growth of the people’s educational system is essential to their cultural, social, economic, and political development.

Ugwuanyi appoints more Officers for Medical facility.

Several major officers of the newly founded State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), Igbo-Eno, Enugu State, have been appointed, with the approval of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State. Prof. James Chukwuma Ogbonna was recently appointed as the vice chancellor of the medical university with Gov. Ugwuanyi’s approval. Mr. Anselem Ugwu Onah was named as the university’s Registrar by Gov. Ugwuanyi yesterday, according to a statement from the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya. Until his appointment, Mr. Onah served as the University of Nigeria Nsukka’s acting registrar (UNN). As the university’s bursar, the governor also named chartered accountant Dr. Elvis Emeka Ozoadibe. Dr. Ozoadibe served as UNN’s deputy bursar prior to his appointment.
