Skit making has become one of the most lucrative jobs in Nigeria.

From stand-up comedy to movies, the comedy sector of the entertainment industry has developed over time. When the Covid -19 pandemic broke out, comedians have come up with innovative techniques to entertain their audience. One of the most rewarding careers in Nigeria is now skit making, which has helped many young people escape the jobless rate. A comedy skit is essentially a brief performance in which the actors imitate various characters, situations, and literary genres to mock them. A few top comedian skit creators in Nigeria are examined in this article, in no particular order.

Adebowale “Debo” Adedayo, better known as Mr. Macaroni in the entertainment industry, started out in the business with Yoruba Films. The comedian, who is 29 years old, is well-known for his “ooin, you are doing great” catchphrase. In several of his skit, he plays a weird father who gives 500,000 Naira to women with large breasts and bums. The young people’s peaceful protests during the EndSARS controversy were greatly assisted by Mr. Macaroni. His estimated net worth is 67 million Naira. Two women who have done excellently in skit making are Kiekie and Taaooma.

Kiekie, who is also known as Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, is a fashion icon, model, and TV personality. She is a brand influencer and businesswoman who resides in Lagos. She was born on June 20, 1990, in Ibadan, Nigeria. In Ibadan, KieKie attended a private primary and secondary school. She later enrolled at Bowen University in Osun State to study mass communication. She later obtained a Master’s degree in marketing from the London School of Business. In 2015, KieKie began working as a host and producer of a fashion TV show for GoldMyne. She won the public’s affection when she started posting regular videos on YouTube and Instagram with her unique tone and manner of discussing life’s issues. With more than 2 million Instagram followers and 300,000 YouTube subscribers, she is thought to be worth over $70,000.

Apaokagi-Greene Maryam, popularly known as Taaooma, was born on February 28, 1999. She was born and raised by her parents in Namibia, but at the age of 10, she travelled back to Nigeria, where she further her education. Taaooma holds a degree in tourism and travel service management from Kwara State University. She started doing stand-up comedy in 2019, and most of her jokes are about how African women treat their kids. Taaooma is regarded as one of the richest comedians in the entertainment industry, given the volume of business, promotions, and sponsorships she has earned as a result of her comic routines. She has 836k YouTube subscribers and 4.4 million Instagram followers, which puts her net worth at $100,000.

Broda Shaggi and Sabinus have stared in some Nollywood films.

Samuel Animashaun Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, was born in Ikene, Ogun State, on July 6, 1993. He is a writer, comedian, actor, and musician. Broda Shaggi started his primary schooling at Mayflower Junior School in Ikene. Eventually, he changed school and completed his secondary studies at Birrel Avenue Senior High School. He continued his education and graduated from the University of Lagos State with a bachelor’s degree in creative art. Many of his characters were created while he was a student and performed in comedy shows before deciding on the stage name of Broda Shaggi. In 2022, he won the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Award for Best Actor in a Comedy. The skit creator, who has over 11.4 million Instagram followers and 1.6 million YouTube subscribers, is reportedly worth over $50,000, including money from endorsements.

Mr. Funny or Oga Sabinus, real name Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, was born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Mr. Funny found his comic skill at a young age and got serious about performing comedy skit in college. Mr. Ibu and Charles Inojie are couple of role models who have affected him in his comic career. In addition, Oga Sabinus has appeared in a number of Nollywood films, including “Billionaire’s Bride,” “Man of War,” and many others. He is expected to be worth more than $100,000. On Instagram, he has a following of more than 3.5 million users, and on YouTube, he has 671K followers.

Josh2 funny and Lasisi are other rising skit makers.

Lasisi Elenu, who was born Nosa Afolabi, gained notoriety with his catchphrase “Hey everyone Laisi is here again.” Something has just happened. He frequently went out on camera during the introduction about things he found upsetting. He has acted in Nollywood films like African Messiah, The Ghost and the Tout, and The Razz Man. Chibuike Josh Alfred, also known as Josh2funny, gained popularity for his fun-filled “don’t leave me” challenge. In 2011, the comic totally transitioned to comedy. He has appeared in Nollywood films like Money Miss Road and Lagos Real Fake Life. Also, he is well known for doing funny renditions of well-known songs with his funny-dressed backing vocalists.
