George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, emphasized the importance of young individuals using the government’s policies as a means to combat the issue of Unemployment. During his speech at the 21st convocation lecture of the Igbinedion University, Akume revealed that a staggering amount of over ₦10 billion had been reserved in the budget solely for initiatives aimed at empowering the youth. During the convocation, he emphasized that the current government was directing its attention towards the younger generation.

Akume encouraged the graduating students to ensure to utilize the implemented strategies in order to effectively combat the issue of unemployment in the country. He further emphasized the allocation of over ₦10 billion in the National Budget for programs targeting the youth, thereby urging them to seize this opportunity. The primary focus of the government is on young individuals, which makes it imperative for them to make use the government’s policies aimed at addressing this issue.

Collaboration would lead to the advancement of lasting development.

He emphasized the necessity of a partnership between the public and private sectors to ignite innovative research and development in Nigeria during a lecture themed “Public and Private Sector Intervention in Tertiary Education in Nigeria: Stimulus for Innovative Research and Development.” The Secretary to the Government of the Federation acknowledged that the collaboration between various sectors would lead to the advancement of lasting development and guarantee a more promising fate for the nation and its citizens.

Ever since Igbinedion University came into existence in 1999, being the pioneer private university in Nigeria, private funding in Higher Education has emerged as an additional pillar, supplementing the efforts of public Investment in this domain. He expressed his belief that the future of Nigeria solely depends on the standard of Education offered in its tertiary institutions. By collaborating and joining forces with both public and private sectors, the country can actively encourage research and development.

The President of the country, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has exhibited unwavering dedication in revamping the Economy in Nigeria and ensuring enhancement of the standard of living for all Nigerian citizens.

Furthermore, he has effectively attracted international investors, and has convinced them to return to the nation. The SGF confidently attested that this endeavour has begun to bear fruitful outcomes. During his speech, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, announced a groundbreaking collaboration between his institution and Harvard University. This profound partnership aims to pioneer research and training initiatives dedicated to eradicating Malaria in the African continent. The VC disclosed progress emerging in this collaboration.

Next year, May 2024, Igbinedion Uni. will celebrate its 25th anniversary.

A proposal had been put forward for the involvement of two university faculty members from the university in the forthcoming undertaking. The vice chancellor enthusiastically expressed his anticipation for the highly-awaited 25th anniversary of the esteemed private university, scheduled to take place in May 2024. Acknowledging the outstanding achievements of the institution in recent times, the vice chancellor eagerly looked forward to the commemoration of its position as the leading private educational establishment in the nation.
