Ogun State Gov to grant free health insurance

Expectant mothers would receive complimentary prenatal healthcare services.

Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun State, revealed his intentions to grant free health insurance to a vast population of more than 70,000 individuals. This inclusive scheme encompasses various groups like expectant mothers, youngsters, senior citizens, women involved in market activities, and individuals partaking in the informal sector across the entire state. In his statement, he proclaimed that his leadership would ensure that expectant mothers receive complimentary prenatal healthcare services. Furthermore, State Hospitals and Primary Health Care Centres throughout the region will witness an additional allocation of ₦5,000 for every birth that takes place within their facilities.

In the state capital of Abeokuta, the governor addressed the public on February 14, 2024, during a press conference. He emphasized that his administration is diligently implementing pre-emptive actions to mitigate the repercussions of the ongoing economic difficulties on the residents of the state. In recognition of the struggles faced by citizens, Dapo Abiodun, as an administration, is far from ignoring or showing disregard to their challenges. More than 70,000 individuals will receive health insurance coverage under their provision, encompassing a range of beneficiaries such as pregnant women, children, the elderly, market women, and other individuals belonging to the informal sector. Within the state government’s Ibidero Scheme, they are dedicated to catering to the specific needs of expectant mothers.

Furthermore, in order to ensure their well-being, they will be offering expectant mothers complimentary prenatal assistance, a supplementary amount of ₦5,000 for each birth, as well as free postnatal care. These services will be made available in the State Hospitals and Primary Health Care Centres spread across the entire state. He, on the other hand, affirmed that the state would offer sustenance assistance in the form of food aid to approximately 300,000 households, supplying them with provisions such as rice and other nourishing items.
