The Super Eagles book semi final spot in the AFCON 2023 tournament.

Nigeria was the first side to book their place in the AFCON 2023 semi final, beating Angola 1-0 on Friday. Ademola Lookman again looked to be the hero, finishing off a good run from Moses Simon in the 41st minute to score his third goal of the tournament. Victor Osimhen also headed the ball to the back of the net but the goal was ruled out for offside. This first half goal was enough to secure their semi final place, where they will have either of Cape Verde or South Africa. Nigeria have qualified for the semi final round in 13 of their last 15 AFCON appearances and will once again be hoping to clinch the title.

DR Congo makes last four place in the 2023 AFCON tournament.

Down by one goal, Dr Congo came back to secure a crucial 3-1 victory over Guinea on Friday evening. The game commenced on a thrilling note on both sides until Congo’s captain, Chancel Mbemba pushed Mohamed Bayo in the box 18, causing a penalty which was easily slotted home by Bayo in the 21st minute. Mbemba however smashed the ball home six minutes later to secure a crucial equalizer. Congo became more threatening in the second half, with Yoane Wissa scoring a 65th minute penalty before Arthur Masuaku secured Congo’s win with a beautiful goal in the 85th minute. DR Congo are the second team to book their place in the semi final after Nigeria.

Son Heung-min leads South Korea to sensational comeback win.

South Korea has secured their spot in the Asian Cup, all thanks to Son’s late free kick goal to hand South Korea a 2-1 win over Australia. Australia took the lead right before halftime after Nathaniel Atkinson’s cross was volleyed home by Craig Goodwin. Minutes before the final whistle, Son was brought down in the box and Wolves’ striker, Hwang Hee-chan successfully placed the penalty in the top corner, forcing extra time. Son however proved his importance again to the South Korea team, ailing his free kick past the Australian keeper in the 104th minute to help South Korea qualify for the semi finals of the Asian cup.

Chelsea forward, Armando Broja moves to Fulham in loan deal.

Young forward, Armando Broja has finally secured a loan deal to Fulham until the ends of the 2023/2024 season. Broja, who featured in 13 of Chelsea’s 22 Premier League games, scored only one goal which came against Fulham in October. The 22 year old will take the number 9 Jersey as he looks to lock his starting position. Reports indicate that Chelsea will be obligated to a £4 million loan fee, if the striker starts in at least 10 of the next 16 league games.

Joel Embiid’s MVP chances in ruins after displaced meniscus flap.

The Philadelphia Sixers star and last years MVP, Joel Embiid has just been diagnosed with a displaced meniscus flap in his left knee. Averaging 34 points per game, Embiid has been heavily tipped to win his second consecutive MVP but with the new 65-game rule for MVP consideration, there is huge doubt surrounding him winning. He has missed 12 of the Sixers’ 46 games this season. In their clash against the Golden States Warriors, the Centre was seen holding his left knee in what looks like a big injury. Sources are now reporting that Embiid is likely to consider a surgery, which will leave him out of the team for an extended period.
