Liverpool to face Manchester United in FA Cup quarter final.

Despite a plethora of injuries which depleted the team, a young Liverpool team annihilated Southampton 3-0 in the 5th round of the FA cup, with goals coming from Koumas and Danns to send them to the competition’s quarter finals. Casemiro also rescued Manchester United with a last minute header against Nottingham Forest to secure a qualification spot. Liverpool and United are now set to clash in the quarter final at Old Trafford. Manchester City will battle it out with Newcastle, Chelsea will face Leicester City and Wolves will host Coventry City.


Victor Osimhen scores hat trick as Napoli wins big versus Sassuolo.

Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen’s return to the club has propelled the team back to their winning ways after a series of disappointing performances. Since his return from the 2023 AFCON tournament, Osimhen has scored in all three games played, including Champions league goal against Barcelona and a hat trick in Napoli’s 6-1 win against Sassuolo on Wednesday. Along with his three goals, he also created an assist. Kvaratskhelia also scored a brace in the game. Osimhen has now scored 11 Serie A goals and is now the fourth highest goal scorer in the league after Lautaro Martinez, Dusan Vlahovic and Oliver Giroud.


FIFA launches new online club ranking tool to record club’s progress.

The league has just announced the launch of its intuitive online club ranking tool which is aimed at keeping football fans up to date with their respective clubs’ progress ahead of the inaugural Club’s World Cup which is set to commence in 2025. The tool is reported to not only be a reference point for fans but also media and other stakeholders involved. The chart will be an indicator for teams that have qualified for the qualification and other teams’ updates in the race for the 32-team competition.


Paul Pogba officially banned from football for four years for doping.

Former Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba has been handed a four year ban for testing positive to doping. The Frenchman tested positive for DHEA in August and has been side-lined since, pending the Anti-Doping Tribunal. Italy’s National Anti-Doping Tribunal has however accepted the request of the Anti-Doping Prosecutor’s office to hand him a four year ban, the standard punishment for this offense. Pogba, who will be 34 when the ban runs out, has released an official statement promising to appeal the verdict at the Court of Arbitration of Sport.


Joshua Zirkzee speaks on choosing Nigeria amid Netherlands snub.

Young Bologna forward, Joshua Zirkzee has opened up on him being willing to represent Nigeria, with his Netherlands call up still in doubt. The striker, who was born in Netherlands to a Dutch father and Nigerian mother, has been on the radar of the Nigerian football federation and although stating his dream to play for the Dutch national team, he has not ruled out choosing to represent Nigeria. The 22-year old however spoke on the competition within Nigeria’s forward line with strikers like Osimhen, Victor Boniface and Terem Moffi all fighting to secure the starting spot.
