The Super Eagles got off their AFCON campaign to a frustrating start, with underwhelming performances from the players. Equatorial Guinea’s midfielder, Ivàn Salvador scored a surprise opener in the 36th minute with a well worked goal but Victor Osimhen headed home a quick equalizer, two minutes later. However, the Super Eagles’ wastefulness in front of goals cost them the three points, including Osimhen’s big chance in the seventh-fourth minute. Nigeria will face host country, Ivory Coast on Thursday, as they look to secure their first win the tournament.

Garry Rodrigues’ late goal help Cape Verde secure dramatic victory over Ghana.
The start of the 2023 African Cup of Nations have been nothing short of spectacular, with dramatic results from the teams so far. Ghana’s Black Stars received one of their biggest shocks in Abidjan, as Cape Verde secured a late win over the four time AFCON champions to continue to sequences of surprises in the tournament. After Jamiro Monteiro rebounded Rodrigues’ shot, Ghana’s Alexander Djiku headed home an equalizer 11 minutes into the second half. Cape Verde secured their win late, as Ofori was unable to clear Rodrigues’ shot on goal.

Egypt avoids surprise defeat against Mozambique, thanks to late penalty.
Mohamed Salah’s late injury helped Egypt avoid surprise opening defeat, securing a 2-2 draw in the 2023 AFCON tournament. Despite Egypt asserting quick dominance in the match, with Mustafa Mohammed’s opener inside the first ninety seconds of the game, Mozambique seemed to pull through with a comeback, in two successive second half goals from Witi Quembo and Clesio Bauque within four minutes. Everton and Nottingham Forest at risk of point deduction or fine.
After a 10 point deduction months ago for breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rule, Everton is at risk of another fresh sanction, together with Nottingham Forest. Whilst the Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules requires PL clubs are to lose only about £105 million within the span of three years, reports suggest that both clubs might have exceeded the limits, according to the accounts provided for last season’s financial records. In response, Everton have pointed to the already imposed 10 point deduction, arguing that these new charges are related with the same financial period. Nottingham Forest however, have acknowledged these charges and have promised to work with the necessary authorities.

After a 5-3 overtime win against rival, Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup semi final, Real Madrid have cruised past Barcelona in a thrilling 4-1 victory to secure their first trophy of the season. Real Madrid attacker, Vinicius Junior was on fire, scoring a hat trick in the first forty minutes of gameplay, before Rodrygo’s second half goal capped a thrilling game.
