1st Lady advocates women empowerment

Senator Remi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, advocated additional Stakeholders partnerships for the empowerment of women in the sector of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). She affirmed that the requirement for multi-sectoral collaborations is to establish more thriving and inclusive tech future for the women in Nigeria. Mrs. Tinubu stated this during her address at the closing ceremony of the Women ICT Training Empowerment Programme, which was held in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, and organized by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

Mrs. Tinubu recognized the impact of technology and its transformative power in bridging gaps in different sectors, especially technology. She emphasized that it is important to make sure that women are empowered in ICT as Nigeria is growing in digital transformation. She described the partnership between the Renewed Hope Agenda and NITDA as an initiative for progress, emphasizing the impacts of collective efforts and its functions. Also, she added that significant changes will occur if women are empowered through digital skills, utilizing their skills to generate income to the nation and create job opportunities.

She stated that the significance of digital literacy alongside its role in promoting economic independence cannot be underestimated. This initiative empowers women to seize opportunities, contribute values to their nation and take total charge of their lives, through the rapid development of technology across the world. She congratulated all participants at the successful completion of the programme. She charged them to be thirsty for knowledge, be determined and display resilience which would be a map to their success.

Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Nigeria, stated that firm commitment to foster the utilization of digital tools, promotion of innovation and support of women in the growth of the economy has been ensured by the government. He emphasized the significance of the digital sector in economic prosperity and job creation. The speedy development of technology is creating more demand for tech literate individuals in industries. Dr. Tijani expressed his gratitude to Mrs. Tinubu for her commitment in the progress of the empowerment.

He also recognized the efforts of the Director General (DG) of NITDA alongside his team for their contributions in bringing the programme to life. The empowerment of women is a prerequisite for societal growth and development. He emphasized that unique innovation and creativity will be unlocked through this empowerment. The initiative is properly documented that the provision of equal access to opportunities and education will be of great and positive impact to transforming the trajectory of sustainable development, social harmony, and economic progress.

According to Dr. Tijani, the initiative was in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Nigerian President’s, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, empowerment for women. It also depicts a crucial step in the agenda which further aligned with the two major areas of the Renewed Hope Agenda. They include investment in tech economy to empower citizens with new skills and the empowerment of women to champion parity and equity. Kashifu Inuwa, the Director General of NITDA, spoke about the efforts of the agency to develop innovation and digital literacy across the nation.

There is an ongoing plan to provide accessible training sessions.

Inuwa noted the success of the ICT Training Empowerment Programme for the women, stating its impact of the women on the digital landscape. He mentioned that there is an ongoing initiative to provide comprehensive and accessible training sessions for women from different backgrounds. He highlighted plans to develop a lineage of tech-savvy women who can carve out their potentials and boldly navigate the technology landscape in different industries. All participants applauded the partnership between the Renewed Hope Initiative and NITDA, which showcased the power of collaboration in fostering meaningful change.
