SZA speaks up on being boxed as an RnB artist due to her race.
American singer, SZA has been vocal about not being labelled an RnB star. In a new interview with Dazed, the Tog Dawg Entertainment artist spoke up about being genre-boxed into the RnB category because of her race. She pointed out the difference in how other artists like Justin Bieber are not tied to a single genre as they venture in different genres. She said, “it’s almost a little reductive because it doesn’t allow space to be anything or try anything else.” Like SZA, black stars like Tyler, The Creator also expressed his frustrations about this problem after his 2022 Grammy win, where he complained about the “urban” being morally correct to say the N-word”.

After her album, “The Tortured Poets Department” became the first ever album to surpass one billion streams in a week on Spotify, Taylor Swift has just broken another Spotify record. She has just surpassed The Weeknd to become the artist with the most monthly listeners on the streaming platform with 111.6 million monthly listeners. The Pop star became the first artist since Adele to sell over two million album copies in the first week.

Sony Pictures and Apollo make $26 billion offer to buy Paramount.
Private equity company, Apollo Global Management and entertainment company, Sony Pictures have made a joint $26 million bid to acquire Paramount. The bid includes the assumption of debt with further possible negotiations. This tag-team buyout comes after reports of Paramount’s special committee which was established to consider M&A proposals, evaluating an offer from Skydance Media to merge both companies while keeping Paramount as the public face. It remains unclear how this negotiation will go, considering Paramount had rejected previous Sony-Apollo offers.
