It will contribute to achievement of net-zero emissions by 2060.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has brought a glimmer of hope and optimism to countless Nigerians and Africans, as a result of the recent delivery of 1 million barrels of crude oil to the state-of-the-art Dangote Refinery. Femi Otedola, a prominent billionaire entrepreneur, embraces this milestone as a significant turning point that holds the promise of a brighter future for the masses. Additionally, he emphasized that Dangote’s refinery is set to contribute significantly towards Nigeria aim of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.

This feat will be facilitated by the implementation of advanced carbon capture technologies and storage procedures, allowing for the capture of an impressive 90% of emitted CO2. Moreover, the refinery will play a pivotal role in curbing carbon emissions originating from crude oil maritime transportation, thereby making substantial strides in reducing well-to-tank carbon emissions. On Sunday, while expressing his views, Otedola emphasized that this particular progress would pave the way for Nigeria to achieve energy stability and autonomy.

Euro 5 fuel will enhance air quality and alleviate respiratory illnesses.

He further mentioned that the Dangote Refinery’s inception is anticipated to yield numerous employment prospects, both directly and indirectly, for the citizens of Nigeria. This immense workforce expansion is projected to play a pivotal role in bolstering the nation’s economy and diminishing the impact of poverty. In addition, Otedola highlighted that the introduction of Euro 5 fuel would have a positive impact on the atmosphere by enhancing air quality and alleviating respiratory illnesses resulting from the utilization of substandard fuels across Africa.

In the aspect of industrial achievements, the Dangote Petrochemical Complex stands as a remarkable testament to the unwavering dedication and exceptional leadership of one of Africa’s most resolute patriots. Comprising a petroleum refinery capable of processing an unparalleled 650,000 barrels per day, a polypropylene facility generating a staggering 1 million metric tonnes annually, and two fertilizer trains poised to produce an impressive 3 million tonnes of urea, this complex transcends mere milestones to symbolize unparalleled excellence.

Reduction of Well-to-tank carbon emissions from maritime transportation.

Otedola stated that he witnessed the birth and evolution of this idea first-hand, being closely involved throughout its entire journey. Additionally, he sympathized with the countless sleepless nights Dangote persevered through for the past ten years in order to make this aspiration a reality. Millions of Nigerians and Africans find hope in the establishment of this refinery, as it not only serves as a symbol of hope but also takes the lead in promoting the utmost importance of environmental sustainability.

By implementing advanced carbon capture technologies and efficient storage processes, this solution aims to capture and store an impressive 90% of the emitted CO2. Additionally, it will contribute significantly to the reduction of well-to-tank carbon emissions stemming from maritime transportation of crude oil. Hence, this initiative plays a crucial part in Nigeria’s ambitious goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060. The Refinery employs a sustainable approach by reusing all of its water and effectively harnessing the heat generated in the process to generate a substantial 50 MW of Power. Additionally, Dangote is actively involved in the production of Euro 5 to replace the detrimental Euro 5 that has been abandoned in Africa over an extended period.

Reducing CO2 emissions by a significant amount.

Furthermore, by transporting a daily average of 65,000 barrels of crude oil from Nigeria and delivering 650 kb per day of refined products to Nigeria and neighbouring nations, a total of 480 ships with a capacity of 1 million barrels each, Nigeria can effectively reduce CO2 emissions by a significant amount ranging from 1.5 million to 2.5 million tons. Such an initiative holds immense potential in fostering a greener environment. Ensuring compliance with these specifications for every processed petroleum item, it shall vigorously advocate for the security and self-sufficiency of the country in terms of energy resources, thereby inciting a revolutionized era of affluence for the subcontinent. The commitment guarantees a profound economic transformation not only for Nigerians of today but also for future generations.
