After experiencing what the old Politics entails, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has stated that Nigerian youth are eager to move away from those who view national leadership as a corrupt activity. Obi made those remarks at an event in Abuja titled “Redefining Our Options and Consolidating our Legacies” hosted by Obidient support groups. The occasion was coordinated to align with the first-year celebration of the February 25, 2023 elections for President.
Obi’s words resonated with the nation, inspiring the youth to take up the responsibility of shaping the future of the country. He praised the unwavering belief and unity of the Nigerian supporters who stood by the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign and the Labour Party during the campaigns and elections. He also acknowledges and respects the Patriotism and freedom of those who did not endorse or cast their vote for him. He commends their bravery and determination, highlighting their joint declaration that a brighter future for Nigeria, one filled with prosperity and unity, is achievable for all its citizens.
Over 80% of the population now live in multidimensional poverty.
The LP leader commended the courage of individuals who rejected negativity, made significant sacrifices, and remained steadfast in their belief that the nation is united for the greater good and the well-being of future generations should guide its future. Reflecting on the election and the current state of affairs in the country, it is evident that a shift towards a more progressive Nigeria is necessary, with outdated political practices being left behind. A few months post-election, the majority of their concerns regarding the country’s direction mirroring outdated political practices have materialised into alarming realities.
Despite losing the election, they have achieved a moral triumph of immense significance. All the dreadful predictions they made have come to fruition. The country’s Economy is currently experiencing its most severe downturn in history. The percentage of people considered to be living in multidimensional Poverty has climbed to over 80% of the population. Likewise, the rapid rise in Unemployment among the youth is causing alarm and poses a severe threat. The hunger protests have brought together individuals from various backgrounds, showing that Nigerians can unite based on shared living conditions rather than divisive tactics used by self-serving politicians.
Poor Nigerians embrace their Nationality without regrets.
However, the LP candidate expressed deep sadness over the overwhelming crowd that crowded the Nigerian Customs Zonal Office in Yaba in search of the discounted 25kg rice being sold by the Customs Service. During the chaotic situation, some lives were lost. It is saddening to see Nigerians risking their lives in search of affordable food despite the nation’s abundance of wealth and the increasing hunger crisis in the country. The ex-governor of Anambra State observed that despite facing complex challenges, Nigerians demonstrated remarkable patriotism.
As he travelled across Nigeria, from the North to the South, he added that he couldn’t help but notice the widespread poverty and distress engraved on the faces of many. However, amidst all this, he found hope in the resilience and positivity of the Nigerian people as they held on to their dreams for a better future. Every poor person he has met embraces their Nigerian identity without regrets. They believe in the potential of Nigeria despite being disappointed by its leadership. Obi took the opportunity to convey a message of optimism to the people of Nigeria, especially those who have shown him their support.
