Why include private university in TETFUND?

TAU has drawn committed employees in spite of obstacles like funding.

Established in 2021, Thomas Adewumi University (TAU) has experienced tremendous growth and accomplishments in its brief existence, growing from 13 to 27 accredited programs, from 66 to nearly 700 students, and securing over $178,000 in grants, with the goal of achieving $5 million in grants in the near future through research, partnerships, and development initiatives. TAU is the only institution in Kwara State to offer a Doctor of Physiotherapy program, and it is soon to admit its first medical students.

Rising from 252nd to 41st in Nigeria’s rankings, the university is now placed 4th in Kwara State and 11th overall among private universities. TAU has been able to draw committed employees in spite of obstacles like funding and its remote location, and it is still pushing for private institutions to be included in government funding systems like the TETFund and Student Loan programs. With a focus on sustainability, TAU works with the local community and uses Solar Energy to generate its electricity.

MoU between TAU and Bowie State University was signed in April 2024.

It intends to become the top private university in Nigeria in the next five years by growing its academic offerings and forging closer ties with businesses. Thomas Adewumi University (TAU) has aggressively sought partnerships with academic institutions and business partners in order to improve the quality of Education and give students real-world experience. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between TAU and Bowie State University was signed in April 2024. This collaboration focusses on Teacher and student exchange programs, academic events, cooperative grant applications, and cooperative research projects.

Also, it gives TAU students a way to apply to Bowie State University’s graduate programs. TAU established a strategic alliance with Al-Hikmah University in September 2023. This partnership involves professor and student exchanges, collaborative academic projects, and the creation of multidisciplinary programs with the goal of utilising group resources to address global issues. With an emphasis on Innovation and superior research, TAU and the University of Johannesburg launched a strategic partnership in January 2024. The purpose of this collaboration is to improve educational opportunities and give students exposure to other countries.

Access to student loans with advantageous terms, including as reduced interest rates and flexible repayment alternatives, has been made easier by TAU in partnership with FinStudiez Ltd. In order to close the gap between academia and business, this alliance also provides internship and career opportunities. TAU and Saylor Academy have teamed up to offer students further skill development through easily accessible and reasonably priced online courses, improving their competencies across a range of subjects. 26 pioneer students, including six who received First Class Honours, graduated from TAU’s first convocation on November 26, 2024.

These alumni provide witness to both the university’s quick expansion since its founding in 2021 and its dedication to academic excellence. TAU has put creative tactics into practice to lessen financial difficulties.
