Angel Reese dominates, as Chicago Sky defeats Indiana Fever.
It was a beautiful game for the 2024 rookie class as Chicago Sky secured a close 88-87 win over the Indiana Fever on Sunday. The Indiana Fever were on a 4-game winning streak and on pace to win 5 straight but Angel Reese powered the Sky to a 12-point comeback in the fourth quarter, finishing the game with a career-high 25 points and 16 rebounds, becoming the first rookie to put up this number since A’ja Wilson in 2018. The overall 2nd pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, Kamilla Cardoso also secured her second double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Despite the loss, Caitlin Clark also balled out with 17 points and a franchise record 13 assists in the game.

Hungary scores a last-minute goal to snatch an important win against Scotland.
Scotland’s group stage misery in major tournaments continues as Hungary knocks them out of the Euros 2024 tournament. In a dramatic twist, Kevin Csoboth scored his first ever international goal in the 110th minute to give Hungary a 1-0 win, putting them at 3rd-place behind Germany and Switzerland. This win was however overshadowed by a horrendous injury suffered by Hungary’s striker, Barnabás Varga in which his collision with Scotland’s goalkeeper, Angus Gunn fractured several bones in his face. Hungary will be in contention to qualify to the Ro16 as one of the best losers.

Lionel Messi comments on the modern style affecting football spontaneity.
Without a doubt, there has been a clear shift in the style of playing over the years. While the old style favoured more flamboyance from players, the modern style, credited to Pep Guardiola, has demanded a more systematic and less expressive approach. Many football fans have been critical of this systematic style and Lionel Messi is the latest to comment on this change. He said, “The Guardiola era has caused a bit of confusion. Everyone wants to play like that now. They tell 6/7 year olds to play with 2 touches, quickly. At that age, what happened with me needs to happen for these kids… we shouldn’t take away their spontaneity.”
