Adam Silver speaks on NBA players’ incentives to compete at the All Star games.
Over the years, fans have watched the All Star games gradually evolve into a less competitive experience. This season, the East defeated the West 211-186 and fans were quick to complain about the lack of defence and general competition in the acclaimed All-star games. ESPN presenter, Michael Wilbon however asked the NBA President, Adam Silver about the possibility of a US versus International All-star game and its potential to brew a more competitive atmosphere. On this, Adam Silver noted that the league might have just gone past the point where players and teams are incentivized to play a competitive All-Star game in the middle of the season. Referencing the Steph Curry vs Sabrina Ionescu 3-point shootout, he however agreed that the league needed to do something a little different.
“We may be just past the point where guys and teams are incentivized to play a competitive All-Star game in the middle of the season.”
