The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has reinforced its commitment to humanitarian assistance in Nigeria, executing 98 projects valued at $47,194,210 (approximately ₦56,566,330,520) in recent years. These projects span across critical areas such as food security, health, early recovery, sanitation, hygiene, education, and charitable assistance, according to Ambassador Faisal Ebraheem Alghamdi. During a symbolic presentation of 50 tons of date palms to the Federal Government, aimed at supporting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and victims of natural disasters, Ambassador Alghamdi emphasized Saudi Arabia’s dedication to alleviating suffering and fulfilling its humanitarian role globally.
Presented to Ambassador Murtala Jimoh, Deputy Director, Middle East and Gulf Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the donated dates represent a portion of the 100 tons of dates distributed in Nigeria, with 50 tons previously distributed in Kano. Through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief), Saudi Arabia has provided significant humanitarian assistance to Nigeria, including the recent Et’am 3 Initiative in March 2024, which distributed food baskets to 5,606 beneficiaries across Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Borno, and Abuja, at a cost of $400,000. This initiative demonstrates Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting Vulnerable Populations in Nigeria, particularly in the areas of food security and nutrition.
