Updates on Amorim, Leverkusen, Cleveland Cavaliers, Liverpool and the Lakers.

Rúben Amorim officially appointed as new Manchester United’s Head Coach.

Manchester United has appointed Rúben Amorim as their new head coach, replacing Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed after a 2-1 loss to West Ham left United in 14th place in the Premier League. Amorim, a former Portugal international, joins from Sporting CP, where he led the team to two league titles, including their first in 19 years, and three League Cup victories. Known as one of Europe’s most promising young coaches, Amorim is set to start on November 11, with his contract running until June 2027 and an option for an additional year. United will pay Sporting €11 million ($11.95M) for his release. Meanwhile, former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who led the team to a 5-2 League Cup win over Leicester, will continue to serve as interim manager until Amorim’s arrival.

Bayer Leverkusen draws Stuttgart; drops to 3rd on the Bundesliga table.

Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen were held to a goalless draw against Stuttgart on Friday, despite dominating in an energetic match. Leverkusen hit the woodwork twice, forced Stuttgart goalkeeper, Alexander Nübel into multiple saves, and had a Jeremie Frimpong goal disallowed for offside. Currently third in the league, Leverkusen could fall seven points behind the top if Bayern Munich or Leipzig win this weekend. Although Stuttgart created few chances, capitalizing on Leverkusen’s defensive lapses, with the hosts now conceding in every Bundesliga game this season. This was Leverkusen’s first scoreless game of the season and their fourth draw in six matches across all competitions. Victor Boniface came closest to scoring, striking the post in the 53rd minute. Leverkusen faces Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday, while Stuttgart will host Atalanta on Wednesday.

Liverpool scouting potential replacements amid Salah’s contract uncertainty.

With Mohamed Salah’s contract set to expire at season’s end, Liverpool are scouting potential replacements in case he departs. Led by Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes, Liverpool’s recruitment team is actively identifying talent for key areas that may need reinforcement in the next year. Salah is one of three major stars, along with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose futures remain uncertain. Among possible targets is 24-year-old forward Antoine Semenyo, who was signed by Hughes for Bournemouth in 2023. Semenyo has thrived under coach Andoni Iraola, scoring three times in nine appearances this season. Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, 25, is also on Liverpool’s radar, with eight goals in his last nine Premier League games. Both players share Salah’s versatile attacking qualities. Although Sky Germany suggested Liverpool is monitoring Stuttgart’s Egyptian forward Oumar Marmoush, Merseyside sources deny any interest.
