Two-time heavyweight champion, George Foreman passes away at age 76.
Boxing legend, George Foreman passed away at age 76, his family announced on social media. A two-time heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medallist, Foreman was one of the sport’s most iconic figures. He is best remembered for his 1974 Rumble in the Jungle bout against Muhammad Ali, a historic fight he lost by eighth-round knockout. After losing his title to Ali, Foreman continued fighting before retiring unexpectedly at 28 to become a minister. A decade later, he launched an incredible comeback, returning to the ring at 38. Though initially dismissed, he proved his legitimacy by challenging Evander Holyfield in 1991. In 1994, at nearly 46, Foreman stunned the world by knocking out Michael Moorer to reclaim the heavyweight title, becoming the oldest champion in history. Beyond boxing, Foreman found success as an HBO analyst and entrepreneur. His George Foreman Grill sold over 100 million units, securing his legacy both in and out of the ring.

Thiago Almada scores a “worldie” as Messi-less Argentina defeats Uruguay.
Without Lionel Messi, Thiago Almada stepped up as Argentina’s hero, scoring the lone goal in a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Uruguay in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying. The first half lacked excitement, with both teams engaged in a midfield battle and few clear chances. Argentina’s best opportunity came when Enzo Fernández’s shot was cleared off the line. The game remained scrappy after halftime, with little attacking fluency. However, Almada provided the breakthrough, cutting inside from the left and curling a stunning right-footed shot into the top corner. Argentina then managed the game effectively, limiting Uruguay’s chances and securing the crucial win. With 28 points from 13 matches, Argentina leads the standings and could seal qualification with a draw against Brazil on Tuesday. Brazil sits third with 21 points, behind second-placed Uruguay, while Colombia holds sixth with 19. The top six teams qualify directly, while the seventh-placed side will enter an intercontinental playoff.

England commences the Thomas Tuchel era with a 2-0 win over Albania.
Thomas Tuchel’s tenure as England manager began with a solid 2-0 victory over Albania in their 2026 World Cup qualifying opener at Wembley. Teenage debutant Myles Lewis-Skelly made history, becoming England’s youngest-ever debut scorer after just 20 minutes. The 18-year-old Arsenal prospect latched onto a precise Jude Bellingham through ball before calmly slotting the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs. England pushed for a second before halftime, with Harry Kane’s close-range effort blocked and Dan Burn striking the crossbar with a powerful header. The second half saw Albania threaten on the counter, but England remained composed. With 13 minutes remaining, Kane secured the win, expertly controlling a lofted pass before placing his shot into the bottom corner. Though not a flawless performance, Tuchel’s men displayed patience and control to begin their qualifying campaign on a positive note, setting a strong foundation for their World Cup journey.

Club León ruled out of the Club World Cup due to the multi-club ownership rule.
FIFA’s appeals committee has ruled Club León ineligible for the 2025 Club World Cup due to multi-club ownership regulations, Grupo Pachuca confirmed on Friday. Despite winning the Concacaf Champions Cup to qualify, León was excluded under Article 10, Paragraph 1, which prohibits shared ownership among competing clubs. Grupo Pachuca, which also owns Club León and Pachuca, argued for the clubs’ operational independence, but FIFA remained unconvinced. Grupo Pachuca now has the option to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Meanwhile, FIFA has yet to announce which club will replace León in the tournament, though Costa Rica’s Alajuelense has expressed interest.
