Social circles have an important effect on the lifestyles of Nigerian youth.

Every Culture has certain groups that function within the greater social structure but maintain standards and beliefs that are at odds with those of the majority. That is why criminal behaviour frequently represents a collective reaction formed by the subcultural norms and values of certain social groupings, such as social circles in the larger community. People tend to favour close relationships and friendships with others in their social circle. Peer relationships have an important effect on the lifestyles of individuals. Social circles shape people’s adherence to cultural standards by acting as socialisation agents.

In sharp contrast to those who follow social standards, people deeply ingrained in social groups where criminal activity is normalised are more likely to internalise and accept such codes. This negative social behaviour encourages the nation’s society to engage in corrupt activities. Friend factions are one of the many groups that make up modern society. Teenagers and young adults, in particular, use social factions as role models for behaviour. These models serve as more than just examples; incentives and penalties frequently reinforce them.

Modern societies have diverse groups, each with a distinct subculture.

These peer networks usually hold standards that deviate, if not to contradict, the norms of mainstream society. However, members adapt to these standards out of a need for acceptability and take on the role of “meaningful others” in their group. Behaviour that deviates from social norms and is considered criminal or deviant is contingent upon certain social settings. Modern societies comprise several groups, each with a unique subculture. As such, actions considered normal in one subculture could be considered abnormal in another.

For example, pressure from other members of the campus cult may force a member to prove themselves by committing crimes like Rape or even murder. Similarly, wealthy people in social networks could experience pressure to partake in unethical behaviours like Tax evasion, bribery, or embezzlement to be accepted or approved. Social networks shape members’ socialisation through their own cultures, rules, and customs; noncompliance can occasionally lead to exclusion. The worldwide Corruption problem has become established in Nigeria, affecting every aspect of society and economy. This pervasive corruption shows how chronic it is in the country and is illustrated by the misappropriation of public funds for private benefit.

Nigerian preschools prioritise societal approval over parental guidance.

Furthermore, social networks promote conformity by encouraging shared thinking, in which consistent interactions result in a convergence of perspectives and the negative reinforcement of disagreeing views. Social behaviour is a powerful force that shapes the behaviours of people of all ages, from children to teenagers. Nigerian preschool procedures expose kids to different norms and behaviours, which makes them value societal approval over parental direction. Social behaviour intensifies as kids grow into teenagers, particularly in homes with weak parent-child relationships. Adolescents who are desperate for acceptance may give in to social force, commit crimes, or exhibit abnormal behaviour.

However, saying “No” and taking responsibility for your actions is essential for navigating and effectively resisting unwarranted social behaviour. You must understand that influence happens only when you permit it. Avoid imitating others who lead lavish lives by learning to be content with what you already have. Accept isolation as a chance for contemplation and reaffirming your principles. It would help to avoid situations that put too much tension on you. Seek out friendships that are founded on shared ideals and helpful. Ultimately, value being authentic over fitting in, realising that being true to oneself is more important than fitting in.

Lastly, Adolescents are greatly impacted by social behaviour, both positive and negative. Negative social pressure frequently results in drug misuse, criminal activity, and other antisocial behaviours. Social pressure becomes a major factor in determining young people’s and adult criminality, which is a big problem for society. Since young people are society’s future planners and builders, we must address the harmful impacts of social pressure on teens and young adults through targeted discourse, study, planning, and implementation. This will protect societies’ peaceful, orderly, and progressive development.
