Makinde dismissed the APC Chairman's claim to regain Oyo and Osun by 2027.

The political rivalry between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) has become the focus in the South-West as Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde declares PDP’s readiness to maintain control in Oyo and Osun states. During the commissioning of the road project in Osogbo, Governor Makinde expressed optimism about the PDP’s performance, asserting that the party has consistently delivered governance that resonates with the people. Makinde dismissed APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje’s assertions of reclaiming the two states by 2027. He emphasised that the people of Oyo and Osun have witnessed progress under PDP leadership and would not revert to a system they perceive as less effective.

He underscored that the party’s infrastructure, social welfare, and inclusivity achievements distinguish it from its opponents. Citing Adeleke’s administration in Osun as an example, Makinde praised the completion of inherited projects, particularly the dual carriage road initiated by a previous APC administration. This approach, he noted, reflects a commitment to continuity and value for public funds, a practice he said was also seen in Oyo state. Governor Adeleke voiced similar sentiments, pledging to prioritise projects that serve the public irrespective of their origins.

Adeleke noted infrastructure development as key to driving economic growth.

By completing over 150 kilometres of roads within two years, Adeleke emphasised his government’s focus on Infrastructure as a drive for economic growth. The newly commissioned road project is expected to stimulate Osun State’s economy, create opportunities for local businesses, and increase Real Estate values in surrounding communities. Makinde remarked that infrastructure development enhances connectivity, attracts investments, and promotes economic activity. Both governors emphasised the importance of these projects in improving residents’ quality of life. Adeleke, however, urged citizens to exercise caution on newly completed roads and directed authorities to enforce safety measures to minimise accidents.

Furthermore, the party’s strategy in the two states is based on a governance model prioritising tangible outcomes over political power. Makinde noted that while the APC focuses on regaining political control, their party remains committed to stimulating progress. By delivering pro-people policies, they have built a strong reputation among the electorate, enhancing their chances in future elections. He reassured residents that their party would continue prioritising development, urging them to remain vigilant and steadfast in their political choices. He emphasised that governance rooted in accountability and results must prevail over empty promises.

Governor Seyi Makinde advocated for reforms to promote true federalism.

Meanwhile, Makinde also used the platform to advocate for reforms in Nigeria’s federal structure, arguing that the current system restricts Innovation at the state level. He called for greater autonomy to enable states like Oyo and Osun to address their unique challenges effectively. By promoting true federalism, they seek to empower regions to build localised solutions, ultimately promoting more robust national development. This perspective aligns with the party’s agenda and differs from APC’s centralised governance approach. Makinde argued that decentralisation would allow states to optimise resources and prioritise projects directly impacting citizens.

As 2027 approaches, the PDP’s efforts in the two states could reshape South-West politics. Traditionally an APC stronghold, the region’s shifting dynamics reflect an electorate increasingly focused on results-driven governance. The PDP’s developmental agenda positions it as a strong contender to consolidate its influence, while the APC’s push to regain ground underscores the high stakes of the rivalry. Makinde encouraged residents of both states to support PDP leaders who prioritise their needs, urging them to reject the APC’s attempts to regain control. He expressed confidence that the PDP’s performance record would resonate with voters, ensuring sustained regional progress.

Both governors emphasise the importance of inclusive governance as a cornerstone of their administrations. Adeleke commended Makinde for his unwavering support and collaborative spirit, noting that their bond transcends politics. He said the shared vision of both leaders serves as a blueprint for progressive leadership in the South West. Makinde emphasised that the PDP’s success in the two regions is a model for effective governance. The party has set a standard that resonates with the electorate by prioritising the people’s needs, completing critical projects, and stimulating economic development.
