He condemned the actions of economic saboteurs involved in crimes such as illegal mining, Petroleum theft, vandalism of power installations, destruction of telecommunications equipment, and other activities that affect the nation’s socio-economic progress. Dr. Audi directed zonal and state commandants to enhance their intelligence-gathering capabilities and remain proactive in monitoring flashpoints nationwide. He reassured of their commitment to the mandate as the lead agency in protecting critical Infrastructure and public assets. According to him, collaboration with other Security Agencies is crucial to preventing criminal activities and ensuring a peaceful holiday season.

These efforts are intended to provide an added security layer and prevent disruptions during the festive celebrations. While extending warm festive greetings to Christian worshippers and Nigerians, Dr. Audi urged the public to actively support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities.

In addition, he encouraged caution in public spaces such as recreational centres, shopping malls, and motor parks, which criminals often target during this period. A comprehensive list of safety tips has been issued to help people enjoy a safe and memorable holiday. The festive season, characterised by its joyous gatherings, meals, and reunions, is also a time when vigilance is essential to avoid falling victim to crime. A heightened awareness of surroundings and adherence to safety measures can reduce risks during the celebrations.
Guidelines for staying safe and secure during the festive season.
Their advisory highlights the importance of clearing trouble spots notorious for criminal activities. Despite heightened security, some areas remain volatile and should be avoided. Additionally, lonely and poorly lit locations are prime targets for street urchins and other criminal elements. It is advisable to use alternative routes or travel in groups when passing through such areas, especially during the day. Late-night outings are another potential risk during the festive season. While unavoidable for some due to work or traffic conditions, limiting night activities is strongly recommended. Criminal activities often peak under the cover of darkness, making it crucial to prioritise safety over convenience.
For those attending late-night events or shows, having a trusted companion can provide an added layer of security and ensure someone is always watching out for you. Carrying large amounts of cash while shopping is another vulnerability many fall victim to during the holiday season. The use of cashless payment systems can mitigate this risk and provide convenience. Protecting purchased items is equally important; keeping them out of sight in vehicles or securely wrapped can deter potential thieves. At home, ensuring all doors and windows are in good condition and burglar-proofed if necessary can prevent unauthorised access by burglars targeting homes during the festive rush.
