Group calls for collective attitude toward cleanliness on Independence Day.

With Nigeria’s Independence Day approaching, there is a renewed emphasis on fostering national pride, focusing on the importance of a clean environment and active participation from the community. Wale Fakuyi, the Executive Director of Vintage Cleaners and also the founder of the #CleanHomeCleanStreetCleanNigeria initiative, has urged Nigerians to embrace the nationwide cleanup campaign aimed at transforming not just their surroundings but the collective attitude toward cleanliness and national responsibility. During a press briefing conducted in Lagos, Fakuyi highlighted that the significance of this project extends well past mere visual appeal.

The initiative aims to cultivate a stronger feeling of belonging and national pride by motivating all citizens to participate in creating a cleaner environment. The #CleanHomeCleanStreetCleanNigeria campaign aims to involve all Nigerians, including governments, corporations, and private citizens alike, in the mission to create a cleaner, healthier environment. Fakuyi believes that when individuals take responsibility for their immediate environments, it will spark a ripple effect, inspiring others to do the same. The objective is to ignite a movement that reaches every corner of Nigeria.

Local authorities and businesses should back the initiative.

This program promotes engagement in numerous forms. Citizens of Nigeria are encouraged to tidy their residences and local areas, arrange communal cleanup activities, and post their efforts on Social Media with the designated campaign hashtag. Fakuyi emphasised that this transcends mere cleaning; it aims to cultivate pride and a sense of ownership. As they near Independence Day, they hope to witness each residence, every avenue, and all neighbourhoods shining brightly, stated Fakuyi. It’s more than mere tidiness. In addition to urging personal involvement, Fakuyi called on local authorities and businesses to back the initiative by supplying necessary Waste Management systems and financial support for local projects.

He noted that achieving lasting success hinges on more than sporadic actions; it demands proper Infrastructure and ongoing education. To achieve meaningful and sustainable change, it is crucial to have effective waste management solutions and to educate the community. Both government entities and businesses must contribute to making these resources accessible and to ensure that people understand their proper use. To enhance involvement, the program launched the “Independence Day Challenge”, a creative social media initiative designed to engage more Nigerians.

People are encouraged to participate in the initiative with social media.

Individuals are invited to post images and videos showcasing their cleaning activities while tagging five friends to encourage them to participate. The objective is to spark a momentum of community-focused efforts that extends well past Independence Day. Fakuyi clarified that this initiative is not limited to merely a single day of tidying up. They aim to use this as a foundation for fostering a lasting Culture of cleanliness and care for the environment that endures long after the holiday has passed. The Independence Day Challenge aims to be an enjoyable and captivating initiative that encourages widespread participation among Nigerians, utilising social media to amplify the message.

Fakuyi is confident that this will initiate a chain reaction, motivating individuals to engage actively and, in turn, contribute to a more pristine and dignified Nigeria. At its core, the #CleanHomeCleanStreetCleanNigeria initiative seeks to build a stronger sense of community and national pride by encouraging everyone to take ownership of their surroundings. In celebration of Independence Day, this campaign invites every Nigerian to unite and take part in various activities. Whether it’s tidying up a local road, leading a neighbourhood cleanup drive, or maintaining personal spaces, every contribution matters. Fakuyi envisions that these joint efforts will foster a healthier environment and a stronger bond with the nation.
