16-year old Gout Gout breaks Australian 200m record held for 56 years.

Australian teenager, Gout Gout has made history as the fastest 16-year-old ever to run 200m, clocking an astonishing 20.04 seconds at the Australian Schools Championships in Brisbane. His performance broke the national record set by Peter Norman, who won silver at the 1968 Olympics. Gout’s time is the fastest ever by a 16-year-old and ranks as the second fastest by an under-18 athlete, behind Erriyon Knighton’s 19.84 at 17 in 2021. “It’s pretty crazy,” said Gout of his achievement, which also surpassed Norman’s 1968 Olympic record. The rising star, who turns 17 this month, also ran 10.04 seconds in the 100m, becoming the fourth-fastest Australian in the event. Standing 6ft 2in, Gout has drawn comparisons to sprint legend Usain Bolt. With the 2032 Brisbane Olympics in his sights, Gout is determined to continue his remarkable trajectory.

A late Assane Diao goal salvages a draw for Real Betis against Barcelona.

LaLiga leaders, Barcelona were held to a dramatic 2-2 draw by Real Betis after substitute Assane Diao’s stoppage-time equalizer spoiled their hopes of victory in Manuel Pellegrini’s 500th LaLiga match as a manager. Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring for Barca before halftime, finishing off a brilliant sequence involving Lamine Yamal, Pedri, and Jules Koundé. Real Betis equalized after VAR awarded a penalty for a foul on former Barca player Vitor Roque, with Giovani Lo Celso converting from the spot. Betis suffered a setback when Flick was sent off for dissent. Barcelona regained the lead when Ferran Torres’ strike was reinstated following a VAR review. However, Betis snatched a deserved draw in stoppage time as Aitor Ruibal set up Diao, whose flick slipped through Iñigo Martínez and past Iñaki Peña. Barcelona now turn their focus to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday.

LA Galaxy emerges winner of the 2024 MLS Cup after a decade.

The Los Angeles Galaxy secured their sixth MLS Cup title with a 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, capping a resurgent 2024 season. Goals from Joseph Paintsil and Dejan Joveljić within the first 13 minutes set the tone at Dignity Health Sports Park, where the Galaxy remained unbeaten all season. Despite a spirited effort from the Red Bulls, their slow start ultimately proved costly. Resolute defending preserved the Galaxy’s lead, with injured star Riqui Puig cheering from the sidelines as Gastón Brugman shone in his absence. After the final whistle, Puig joined the celebrations, riding on Brugman’s shoulders as the stadium erupted in cheers. The victory marks a return to dominance for the Galaxy, while the Red Bulls’ wait for their first MLS Cup continues after falling short once again.

Nottingham Forest hands Ruben Amorim his second Man United defeat.

Ruben Amorim’s challenge at Manchester United grew more daunting as his team suffered a second consecutive Premier League defeat, falling 3-2 to Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Saturday. United’s poor form at set-pieces continued when Nikola Milenković out-jumped Lisandro Martínez to score from a corner in just the second minute. Rasmus Højlund equalized on the rebound after a clever setup by Manuel Ugarte, and Bruno Fernandes nearly put United ahead with a free-kick that struck the bar. However, a sluggish start to the second half proved costly as Morgan Gibbs-White restored Forest’s lead, capitalizing on weak goalkeeping from André Onana. Onana’s struggles continued when Chris Wood made it 3-1. Fernandes fired in a thunderous strike to reduce the deficit, but United failed to find an equalizer. The loss leaves United languishing in 13th, with just five wins from 15 league games.
