Chelsea star, Cole Palmer leaving England’s Nations League squad.
England’s interim manager, Lee Carsley, faces a reduced squad for the upcoming Nations League matches after several players withdrew. Chelsea’s Cole Palmer has returned to his club and will miss both fixtures, as confirmed by the club. Similarly, Phil Foden and Ollie Watkins have also left the squad. England begins their Nations League campaign against the Republic of Ireland at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on Saturday, followed by a match against Finland at Wembley three days later. These games mark the start of Carsley’s tenure as interim head coach after Gareth Southgate stepped down following Euro 2024 earlier this summer. Palmer will remain at Cobham, Chelsea’s training ground, for the rest of the international break, leaving Carsley with fewer options to select from for his first matches in charge.

Big news for Barcelona as youngster, Ansu Fati close in on return from injury.
According to recent reports from Marca, Barcelona’s young talent Ansu Fati is nearing a return to action. Fati had been a standout performer in the early preseason training sessions and appeared on track to regain his best form. However, a foot injury sidelined him just days before Barcelona’s US Tour. Despite being linked with various transfer rumors over the summer, Barca insider Matte Moreno reported that Fati was never actually close to leaving the club. Barcelona’s head coach, Flick, has shown strong faith in the Spanish forward and views him as a key option for the number 9 role. With the manager’s confidence behind him, it is expected that Fati will have opportunities to prove himself as he works his way back to full fitness.

Lyon and Marseille reach an agreement to sign Jordan Veretout.
According to L’Équipe, Olympique Lyonnais and Marseille are nearing an agreement for the transfer of 31-year-old Jordan Veretout. Lyon is preparing a new offer for the French midfielder, which Marseille is expected to accept. Veretout’s future at Marseille is bleak, with coach Roberto De Zerbi stating he is no longer part of the club’s plans. Lyon aims to capitalize on this by using their ‘joker’ transfer to sign him, despite the transfer window being closed. The midfielder has already agreed on personal terms with Lyon and is set to sign a two-year contract at Groupama Stadium. Lyon is racing against time to finalize the deal, as the UEFA deadline to register players for the Europa League is September 4th, and they need Veretout registered to be eligible for this season’s competition.
