Karl-Anthony Towns traded to the New York Knicks.
The New York Knicks have acquired four-time All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves, sources confirm to The Athletic. In return, the Knicks will send Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, and a future first-round pick via the Detroit Pistons to Minnesota. Towns, 28, averaged 21.8 points and 8.3 rebounds in 2023-24 after recovering from a knee injury that sidelined him the previous season. The Knicks have pursued Towns for years, and team president Leon Rose, formerly with CAA, finally secured him. This Trade comes after a strong 50-win season for the Knicks, who also added Mikal Bridges and re-signed OG Anunoby. Towns, a lifelong Knicks fan, reunites with coach Tom Thibodeau, despite past tensions. The Timberwolves, meanwhile, clear cap space by turning Towns’ $220 million contract into Randle and DiVincenzo, enhancing their shooting and defense.

Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez receives a 2-game ban for offensive behavior.
Argentina goalkeeper, Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez has been suspended for two matches by FIFA’s disciplinary committee due to offensive behavior and violating fair play principles. He will miss Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela on Oct. 10 and Bolivia on Oct. 15. The suspension follows an incident on Sept. 5 when Martínez held a replica Copa América trophy inappropriately, reminiscent of a controversial celebration during the 2022 World Cup. Additionally, Martínez was punished for shoving a camera operator’s equipment after Argentina’s 2-1 loss to Colombia on Sept. 10. The operator, Jhonny Jackson, described feeling “angry” after the incident. The Argentine Football Federation (AFA) expressed strong disagreement with FIFA’s decision. Despite the setback, Argentina leads the Conmebol World Cup qualifying standings with 18 points, ahead of Colombia. The top six teams will qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup, while seventh will enter a playoff.

WADA appeals the steroid case against tennis player, Jannik Sinner.
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has appealed the steroid case involving top-ranked tennis player Jannik Sinner, seeking a one to two-year ban. Sinner, who won the U.S. Open and claimed two Grand Slam titles in 2024, tested positive for the anabolic steroid clostebol in March but was cleared in August by an independent tribunal. WADA disagrees with the tribunal’s decision, arguing that the “no fault or negligence” finding was incorrect under the rules. While WADA is not seeking to strip Sinner of his titles, they want a ban moving forward. The appeal has been submitted to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Sinner, currently competing in the China Open, expressed surprise and disappointment at the appeal, stating, “All three hearings were positive for me… I’m just surprised that they appealed.” Sinner learned of the appeal just days before it was made official.
