They are assigned the task of conducting thorough exams of the electoral system.

Labour Party (LP) has formed a committee composed of 22 members to address the issue of electoral reform in Nigeria and outline the party’s stance on improving the Electoral System for better results. In a press release from Abuja the LP announced that Dr. Sam Amadi has been appointed as Chairman, with Comrade Ayo Olorunfemi as the alternate Chairman, replacing the current Deputy National Chairman. Umar Farouk, the National Secretary of the party, made the announcement.

Also, the party is urging the INEC to halt the upcoming re-election for Enugu Urban State constituency in response to their candidate being imprisoned just one day before the election. The following announcement was made. It stated that they were pleased to inform the public that the party’s leadership has given their approval for the appointment of the individuals listed below to join the Labour Party Electoral Reform Committee. The committee has been assigned the task of conducting a thorough examination of the electoral system to ensure that future elections are both free and fair.

The committee will officially commence its duties on July 4.

A deadline of three months has been set for the committee to deliver its findings to the party. The following individuals make up the committee: Dr. Sam Amadi leads the board as Chairman, supported by Comrade Ayo Olorunfemi as Alternate Chairman, Mrs. Dudu Manuga as Secretary, Comrade Adekunle Rotimi as Alternate Secretary, and Barrister Calistus Ihediagwa also serving as Alternate Secretary. July 4, 2024, marks the day when the committee will officially commence its duties.

At the same time, the party is requesting the National Judicial Council (NJC) to take disciplinary action against the Attorney General of Enugu State, Deputy Chief Registrar, Chief Judge of Enugu State, and Magistrate Justice E. D Onwu. They are accused of exceeding their professional boundaries, tarnishing the reputation of the Judiciary, and bringing it into disrepute. Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, the Deputy National Chairman of the Labour Party, revealed this information during a press conference in Abuja earlier this week.

INEC decided to schedule a re-election for Enugu Urban State constituency.

More so, it has been confirmed to them that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has made a rapid decision to schedule a re-election for the Enugu Urban State constituency. This decision came as a shock and disappointment, especially since the rightful winner of the initial election was unjustly imprisoned just the day before. The swift action taken goes against the core values of justice and equality, which has sparked significant doubts about the credibility of the electoral process.

Additionally, they called on INEC to rethink their choice and halt any additional steps regarding the Enugu South Rural Constituency election for the time being. They feel confident that this will not unfairly benefit any one party over the others while waiting for the legal proceedings resulting from the undemocratic events happening in Enugu state to come to a close. It is imperative that INEC upholds the people’s wishes. The focus of the Labour Party is on using political power as a means to drive change within the country and to govern in line with the principles of Social Democracy, rather than an ultimate goal in itself.

It is key that citizens are involved in policies that promote stability.

To achieve their goals, the Party will implement a variety of initiatives and regulations with a focus on their mission. It is imperative that all Nigerians are actively involved in programs and policies that promote national unity, Peace, Security, stability, and prosperity. This will help ensure that every citizen truly believes and experiences Nigeria as a caring, inspiring, and inclusive nation. Cultivating a political environment focused on democracy and progress through various processes is part of their mission. Campaigning for elections involves a series of procedures aimed at gaining support. Elevating the Party to become a leading force dedicated to protecting and preserving democracy is their major mission.
