The Nigerian Government, through Nigeria Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT), has initiated a groundbreaking move to revolutionize access to reliable and affordable internet services in underserved communities across the country. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to boost internet penetration and drive socioeconomic development in Nigeria. NIGCOMSAT has entered into a strategic collaboration with several private companies specializing in rural connectivity solutions. This partnership aims to leverage the strengths of both public and private sectors to deploy cutting-edge satellite Technology and innovative connectivity solutions to remote and rural areas traditionally lacking Internet Access.
Aisha Bantam, the company’s Assistant General Manager for Corporate Affairs, highlighted the significance of this collaboration. She stated that by combining NIGCOMSAT’s extensive satellite Infrastructure with the expertise of these private entities in rural connectivity, the partnership will empower communities to bridge the digital divide and unlock new opportunities for socioeconomic development. “At NIGCOMSAT, we are committed to leveraging our technological capabilities to drive digital transformation and improve the lives of Nigerians, especially those in underserved regions,” Bantam emphasized.

The partnership is expected to play a key role in enhancing internet penetration in Nigeria, which currently stands at approximately 51% as of 2023. Nigeria, with its large population of over 200 million people, has seen significant growth in internet usage over the past decade. However, the penetration rate still lags behind many other countries, particularly in rural areas.
