The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is set to establish Manufacturing centres for building materials in all six regions of Nigeria. During a recent meeting with the Housing Minister Ahmed Dangiwa and High Chief Mike Ugwu, Vice Chairman of Yiwu China-Africa Business Council and the Executive Chairman of Zheng Xiaopeng, it was revealed that discussions are going on to enhance the country’s economy. Dangiwa elaborated on their desire to establish a central location for the creation of building materials through industries or factories.
Also, the new hubs are set to be established in Aba, Sagamu, Ajaokuta, Warri or Asaba, Kano, and Gombe. The minister expressed interest in partnering with potential Investors to secure funding for the Construction and management of the hub. They are open to collaborating with any investor who can contribute funds, oversee operations, recover their investment, and share once the initial Investment is recouped. Dangiwa expressed confidence in the Security measures for the locations, emphasising that the goal is to construct them in areas with existing building material markets.
Local businesses will be expanded while attracting new foreign investments.
However, the manufacturing hubs will produce various construction materials such as ceilings, tiles, roofing sheets and doors. They will also be equipped with essential amenities for workers, including power, water, and housing. The minister urged investors to share their ideas, explaining that they cannot provide designs as they have already claimed the concept. Investors can choose from hubs of varying sizes, including small, medium, or large, with a minimum of 100 hectares of land available for development. Dangiwa also announced that the government plans to establish designated free zone areas in the hubs to lower importation expenses, boost employment opportunities, and stimulate economic development.
In addition, the housing ministry’s goal of creating manufacturing hubs for construction materials across the country will enhance and contribute to Economic Growth by generating many employment opportunities and ultimately decreasing the Unemployment rate across the region. Also, it will reduce the need for imported goods, ultimately contributing to the growth of local products and increasing gross domestic product (GDP). The hubs are also expected to boost local businesses, draw in more investments, and stimulate economic growth.
Community engagement will be integral to achieving the goal.
By strongly emphasising environmental sustainability, these manufacturing hubs are leading the way in Eco-friendly production methods. Through the implementation of efficient Waste Management systems and the use of eco-friendly materials, they will reduce their carbon footprint and minimise harm to the environment. This initiative is focused on preserving the environment and serves as a model for future industrial projects. By promoting the adoption of eco-friendly methods throughout the industry, these hubs are setting a precedent for sustainable manufacturing practices.
Similarly, the host communities will also benefit from the initiatives. The program ensures that society will enjoy better Infrastructure and have greater access to necessary services. Creating opportunities for local community involvement is crucial to guaranteeing that their perspectives and requirements are considered throughout the development phase. As stated by the minister, the ministry is dedicated and open to collaborating with community partners and groups to guarantee that the hubs promote inclusive growth and cultivate a feeling of belonging and Empowerment within the local community.

They are expected to also collaborate with schools and training centres to offer essential programs for Education and vocational training. The main goal of these partnerships is to provide workers with the necessary skills to effectively handle and oversee contemporary manufacturing technologies. Investing in human capital fulfils current job requirements and establishes a proficient workforce for tomorrow, reinforcing the Sustainability and prosperity of the centres in the long run.
