In recent years, the Federal Government has released about ₦3.8 billion to support Nigerian scholars who were stuck abroad. Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), made this statement in Abuja during a meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on TETFund. He announced that the fund had supported 1,500 students with the ₦3.8 billion. Echono addressed the issue of scholarship payment delays by explaining how scholars from different countries, including the United Kingdom and Malaysia, were worried about the impact of the recent increase in foreign exchange rates.
However, the issues were raised with the National Assembly, the Presidential Villa, the Ministry of Education, and TETFund. Their joy was immense as they received overwhelmingly positive feedback, ultimately leading to the President’s approval and the successful implementation of what they referred to as the bailout or assistance.
