Speaking at the ongoing Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to climate-smart policies, energy transition, and sustainable development. In his speech, Climate Imperatives into Economic Prosperity: Bridging Africa’s Global Energy Future, Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s initiatives to address climate issues while fostering Economic Growth and equality. Highlighting the country’s approach to climate-smart solutions, he underlined the significance of adopting modern, environmentally friendly farming practices to safeguard local communities from the negative effects of climate change.
As a major component of Nigeria’s larger sustainability plan, the approaches seek to improve Food Security while lessening their negative effects on the environment. The president emphasized that the country’s path forward entails responsibly lowering carbon Emissions while promoting economic growth and guaranteeing social fairness. As the most populous country in Africa and a major economic power, Tinubu acknowledged Nigeria’s obligation to take the lead on climate challenges. He detailed the three pillars that the administration is concentrating on: sustainable development, climate resilience, and energy transition.
Path to net-zero emissions through clean energy.
Specific measures highlighted include implementing climate-smart farming practices to increase food security, encouraging clean energy through the National Clean Cooking Gas Policy, and diversifying energy sources to lessen dependency on fossil fuels.
