FG disburses ₦150,000 grants to Enugu MSMEs

Vice President Shettima announced it at the 5th Expanded MSME Clinic in Enugu.

The federal government of Nigeria has disbursed ₦150,000 grants to business owners in Enugu State to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The initiative is part of a broader national strategy and reflects the government’s commitment to nurturing small businesses as engines of economic growth. Vice President Kashim Shettima unveiled it during the 5th Expanded National MSME Clinic in Enugu. The funding, which has no obligation for repayment, shows President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing Economic Growth and generating employment opportunities.

This initiative aligns with the government’s ongoing emphasis on the importance of micro, small, and medium enterprises in the nation’s progress, as these smaller businesses represent 96% of all enterprises and contribute more than 45% to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). On behalf of President Tinubu, the Vice President emphasised the vital role of programs such as the MSME Clinic in establishing a forum for small enterprises to connect with regulatory agencies and financial organisations. Agencies like NAFDAC, BoI, CAC, and SMEDAN participated to provide immediate resolutions to these issues, reinforcing the government’s dedication to improving the business environment.

MSME Fashion Hub was created to address unemployment across the state.

Also, at the inauguration of Nigeria’s largest “Ultra-Modern MSME Fashion Hub” in the state, the Vice President, through his spokesperson Stanley Nkwocha, emphasised that the hub aims to generate about 48,000 jobs, providing new opportunities for young entrepreneurs and skilled workers in the state. The Vice President underscored the facility’s importance, emphasising its advanced technology, which facilitates Manufacturing diverse fashion items, including military and school uniforms and corporate wear. This advancement is set to enhance local production capabilities and promote economies of scale, establishing Enugu as a vital contributor to the country’s fashion industry.

On his part, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu expressed his appreciation for the federal government’s continued assistance, especially for initiatives that have benefitted the community. He labelled the Fashion Hub a transformative development for the region’s economy, emphasising that this project would revitalise the entrepreneurial drive among the youth in the region by offering them new opportunities. Moreover, Governor Mbah’s administration has aligned its economic strategy with the federal government’s, especially regarding the growth of MSMEs, recognised as crucial for generating employment and creating comprehensive economic transformation.

Tinubu govt launched several beneficial programs for Enugu residents.

Senator Osita Ngwu, serving as the Senate Minority Whip, commended the collaboration between the state and federal administrations. He underscored the advantages that Enugu State has reaped since the beginning of the Tinubu-led government. He referenced multiple programs in the education, energy, and power sectors, stressing that the joint efforts of both governmental partnerships have played a crucial role in achieving meaningful outcomes for the state’s residents. Furthermore, in his address, Vice President Shettima highlighted the crucial role of the business sector in driving the nation’s economic advancement across various areas.

He pointed out that small enterprises form the economy’s foundation, indicating that a nation cannot prosper without a dynamic and thriving micro, small, and medium enterprises sector. His comments underscored the government’s strategic decisions to tackle the urgent issues jeopardising the country’s Economic Stability in recent times. Also, the Honorable Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, conveyed the legislature’s backing for federal initiatives to generate job opportunities. He commended Vice President Shettima for showing compassion to the underprivileged and for his proactive approach to tackling the issues small business owners face.

Lastly, Uche Nnaji, the Minister for Innovation, Science, and Technology, revealed a new nationwide training initiative for shoemaking. He emphasised the significance of entrepreneurship Education in addressing the nation’s Unemployment issues and pointed out that the government’s commitment to skill development is crucial for economic empowerment. Likewise, the private industry has shown its backing for the initiatives put forth by the federal government. The Chairman of the South East division of the National Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) is committed to an ongoing partnership with the government to provide job opportunities, especially for the youth.
