FG approves ₦35bn for Natsini-Kangiwa road

The Federal Government has approved the Construction of the Natsini-Kangiwa-Kamba road in Kebbi State at a cost of ₦35 billion. The announcement was made by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Atiku Bagudu, during a Mega Rally held at Haliru Abdu Stadium, Birnin Kebbi, in honour of President Bola Tinubu and Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris. The minister noted the importance of the project, emphasising that it would enhance the socio-economic activities of rural residents, particularly farmers and traders.

He reassured the public of the Tinubu administration’s commitment to Infrastructure development, dismissing claims that its policies were biased against the northern region. Bagudu underscored the significance of road construction in facilitating economic growth, asserting that infrastructure plays a pivotal role in improving connectivity, trade, and rural development. He pointed to the ongoing Koko-Dabai expressway project as another crucial link for the people of Zuru Emirate and Kebbi State. He reiterated that President Tinubu’s administration is working to bridge infrastructural gaps across Nigeria, ensuring that all regions benefit from federal development initiatives. He further called for unity among Nigerians, stressing that economic prosperity is achievable only through collective efforts.

Senator Bagudu refuted allegations that Tinubu’s administration neglected the North, citing the president’s longstanding history of fostering national cohesion. He emphasised that Tinubu had previously supported northern leaders, demonstrating his commitment to national unity. He assured citizens that Tinubu’s economic policies are designed to unlock the potential of every region, recognising that no part of the country holds superiority over another. The minister reaffirmed the administration’s focus on policies that promote inclusivity and economic Sustainability across all sectors.

On his part, Alhaji Bello Ka’oje, a member of the House of Representatives representing Suru/Bagudo Federal Constituency, echoed Bagudu’s sentiments, commending Tinubu for his extensive contributions to route construction, economic empowerment, and agricultural development. Ka’oje asserted that these initiatives have benefited the northern part of the country and debunked claims of regional favouritism. He also praised the state governor for his dedication to human capital development and infrastructural projects, which have positively impacted the lives of Kebbi residents. The rally, he noted, was a testament to the people’s appreciation of both Tinubu and Idris for their efforts in advancing the region’s economic and social well-being.

In his address to the crowd, Governor Nasir Idris expressed gratitude to Kebbi residents for their unwavering support. He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to Tinubu’s administration and pledged to continue implementing policies that drive Economic Growth and improve the quality of life for the people. Idris noted Tinubu’s remarkable contributions to national development and emphasised that Kebbi remains a stronghold of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He assured the people his administration would remain dedicated to delivering projects that enhance economic prosperity and infrastructural development.

Since assuming office, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has prioritised infrastructure as a cornerstone of his economic agenda. His administration’s “Renewed Hope” strategy emphasises upgrading the nation’s route networks to facilitate trade, enhance mobility, and stimulate economic activities. The government has committed to completing major road projects initiated by previous administrations, including the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Road, and the Second Niger Bridge. Under the leadership of Minister of Works Dave Umahi, the administration is implementing measures to rehabilitate and construct federal roads nationwide, addressing long-standing infrastructure deficits.

Recognising the need for sustainable funding, Tinubu’s administration actively explores Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to Finance critical road infrastructure. Meanwhile, the administration has firmly committed to improving rural road networks, particularly in agricultural regions. These projects aim to boost food production, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve farmers’ livelihoods. Among the notable projects earmarked for execution is the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, a long-conceived initiative to bolster Trade and tourism across the country’s coastal states. Tinubu’s government has vowed to fast-track the project’s implementation to unlock economic opportunities along the corridor.
