Steve Kerr is not expected to continue as the head coach of Team USA.
With the conclusion of the Paris 2024 Olympics and Team USA’s gold medal win, a significant chapter in the U.S. national team’s history is closing. Several key players, including LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant, are nearing the end of their careers and are stepping away from international competition. Additionally, head coach Steve Kerr has announced he will be leaving his position after a successful tenure. Despite his achievements, Kerr faced controversy, particularly for his handling of Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum, which drew widespread criticism during the games. As a result, Kerr is not expected to return as head coach for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. The search for his replacement has begun, with Miami Heat’s Erik Spoelstra and Los Angeles Clippers’ Ty Lue emerging as strong candidates for the role.

Leicester City facing two potential PL point deductions for breaching PSR rule.
Newly promoted side, Leicester City, who were charged by the Premier League in March for allegedly breaching profit and Sustainability rules, may now face a points deduction in the current top-flight season. Despite avoiding such a penalty during their Championship-winning 2023/24 season, The Sun reports that the English Football League (EFL) has handed over its investigation into Leicester’s alleged financial breaches to the Premier League, which is expected to charge the club. Last season, Leicester delayed being charged, resulting in a transfer ban during their promotion push. The EFL anticipates another significant overspend for their time in the Championship, leading the Premier League to consider imposing two separate points deductions. The charges relate to Leicester’s financial loss of £215.3 million ($278.6m) between 2020-23, far exceeding the £105m ($135.9m) limit over three years, which could result in a harsher penalty than Everton’s eight-point deduction for overspending.

French power forward, Guerschon Yabusele signs a 1-year deal with the Sixers.
The Philadelphia 76ers have signed forward Guerschon Yabusele to a one-year, $2.1 million deal after his standout performance for France at the recent Olympics. The 28-year-old, who was a first-round pick by the Boston Celtics in 2016, had limited NBA action before continuing his career in China, France, and Spain. Yabusele made a big impact in Paris, averaging 19.6 points per game and shooting 67% from the field during France’s silver-medal run, including strong performances against Canada, Germany, and the USA. With the 76ers looking to strengthen their frontcourt, Yabusele could fill a need for a power forward. Philadelphia also signed guard Paul George to a max contract this offseason and retained free agents Kelly Oubre and Kyle Lowry. While Caleb Martin is expected to start as the power forward, Yabusele could see playing time immediately.

Haaland and Kovačić scores as Man City defeats Chelsea in PL opener.
Premier League champions Manchester City began their title defense with a commanding 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Despite missing key player Rodri, Pep Guardiola’s side adapted well, securing the win with goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovačić. Haaland netted his 91st goal in his 100th appearance for City, slotting home in the 18th minute after being set up by Bernardo Silva. Chelsea’s defense, led by Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana, couldn’t stop the Norwegian striker. Kovačić, a former Chelsea player, sealed the win for City six minutes from time, capitalizing on a disorganized Chelsea midfield. It was a tough start for Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca in his first competitive game in charge. City will aim to maintain their winning form against newly promoted Ipswich next Saturday.

Tyreek Hills responds to Noah Lyles’ comment, says he is ready to race him.
Noah Lyles became the first American to win the 100m since Justin Gatlin in 2004, earning the title of “fastest man in the world.” However, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill claimed Lyles faked illness after winning bronze in the 200m at the Olympics, insisting he would beat the US track star in a race. During an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s ‘Nightcap’ podcast, Lyles addressed Hill’s comments, saying, “Tyreek is just chasing clout… If he really wanted to race, he would’ve shown up like D.K. Metcalf.” Lyles challenged Hill to a race, and within 24 hours, Hill accepted on X, writing, “Sign the contract and lock in that 50-yard race.” While Lyles is the clear favorite due to his track achievements, Hill’s speed on the field makes him a strong contender for the challenge.
