A’ja Wilson becomes the first WNBA player to surpass 1000 points in a season.

Two-time MPV, A’ja Wilson made WNBA history by becoming the first player to score 1,000 points in a single season during the Las Vegas Aces’ 84-71 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday. Wilson hit the milestone with a pull-up jumper from the elbow with just two minutes left in the game. Earlier in the week, she broke the previous single-season scoring record set by Jewell Loyd last year. Following her achievement, the Aces called a timeout, and her teammates celebrated by mobbing her. Wilson then received a standing ovation from the crowd, clapping her hands in appreciation. The Aces, now with a 25-13 record, lead Seattle by one game for the No. 4 playoff seed and home-court advantage. Las Vegas has won seven of its last eight games heading into the postseason.

Adrien Rabiot set to move back to Ligue 1, agrees move to Marseille.

France international, Adrien Rabiot has agreed in principle to join Ligue 1 club Marseille on a free transfer, following the expiration of his contract with Juventus at the end of the 2023-24 season. Despite being linked with Manchester United during the summer, that move did not materialize. Marseille, now managed by former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, have confirmed the agreement, pending a medical. The club has made several key signings this summer, including Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood. Rabiot, who played a crucial role for France in the European Championship, was excluded from the squad for their Nations League matches against Italy and Belgium in September. The 29-year-old hopes to finalize his transfer in time to be included in De Zerbi’s squad for Marseille’s upcoming Ligue 1 fixture against Lyon on September 22.

Arsenal wins the North London derby despite Rice and Martin Ødegaard’s absence.

Gabriel Magalhães’ header secured a 1-0 victory for Arsenal over Tottenham on Sunday, extending the Gunners’ dominance in the north London derby. Despite missing key midfielders Declan Rice (suspended) and Martin Ødegaard (injured), Arsenal delivered a resilient performance. Tottenham’s wasteful finishing allowed Arsenal to capitalize, with Gabriel’s second-half goal marking his first since February. The win gave Arsenal their third triumph in four Premier League games, keeping them unbeaten as they chase their first title since 2004 after two consecutive runner-up finishes. Arsenal have now won their last three visits to Tottenham, losing only once in their last eight meetings. The Gunners sit second in the table, two points behind Manchester City, with a Champions League match against Atalanta and a league clash with City on the horizon.

Ademola Lookman scores and assists as Atalanta beats Fiorentina.

Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s 3-2 victory over Fiorentina in Sunday’s Serie A match, contributing a goal and an assist. Fiorentina initially took the lead through Lucas Martínez Quarta in the 15th minute, but Lookman quickly assisted Mateo Retegui for the equalizer six minutes later. Moise Kean restored Fiorentina’s advantage in the 32nd minute, but Charles De Ketelaere leveled for Atalanta just before halftime. Moments later, Lookman scored the winning goal, skillfully dribbling past Fiorentina defenders to net his first Serie A goal of the season. The Ballon d’Or nominee, who missed the first three matches due to transfer rumors, made an instant impact on his return. Atalanta’s win, which lifts them to eighth place in the standings, comes ahead of their Champions League opener against Arsenal, with Lookman expressing confidence in his team’s form.
