Enugu State unveils its Smart City plan

Nigeria Residents in Guangdong Province, China, have expressed their enthusiasm as Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State unveiled an innovative New Enugu City project, a significant effort designed to establish the state as a prime location for commerce, Investment opportunities, and tourism. The launch occurred at a roadshow event in Guangzhou, as Nigerians, particularly from the Igbo community and Enugu region, warmly welcomed the governor and the dynamic initiative with lively cultural performances and traditional tunes.

Governor Mbah envisions a New Enugu City that aims to turn the state into a centre of creativity, sustainability, and advancement. This smart city initiative offers advanced facilities, upscale living conditions, and numerous economic prospects. Notably, it has attracted considerable attention from the Nigerian diaspora in China, with many expressing a strong desire to invest in this endeavour. The governor guaranteed those present that the initial stage of the city’s growth, overseen by China Communications and Construction Company (CCCC), would be completed in 12 to 18 months.

The state indigenes are encouraged to make investments.

At the roadshow event, prominent members of the Nigerian community in Guangzhou, such as the Nigerian Mission Consul-General, Ambassador George Onwuekwe, the Nigerian Community President, Adebutu Olanrewaju, and the Enugu State Association President, Hyacinth Ezeka, praised Governor Mbah’s courageous vision. They highlighted that this initiative embodied a long-cherished aspiration for the advancement of Enugu and conveyed the assurance that it would greatly enhance the state’s reputation, not only within Nigeria but also throughout the Southeast area.

Ezeka expressed enthusiasm for the potential benefits this project could bring to the Igbo people, encouraging his compatriots to support the endeavour by channelling resources into the state. He stated the state would become the premier state in both the Southeast and all of Nigeria. They encouraged the Nigerian diaspora to consider opportunities back home, highlighting that Mbah was the first Nigerian governor to connect directly with the local community in that part of China. This direct interaction by the governor significantly impressed the audience, which heightened enthusiasm for the New Enugu City initiative.

Residential, healthcare, sports, and other centres will be featured.

After the event, Governor Mbah expressed his enthusiasm to the media regarding the increasing fascination with the smart city project. He pointed out that New Enugu City was designed with the recognition that Economic Development should be complemented by pleasant, high-standard living spaces. They are in the process of creating a remarkable smart city that will compete with the finest globally. He described this city as a distinctive development that uniquely combines residential, healthcare, sports, and commercial spaces, setting it apart not only in Enugu but throughout Nigeria.

Initiated in October 2023, this initiative will feature cutting-edge facilities, including a healthcare facility, a modern industrial hub, a sports complex, and a wellness district that will accommodate corporate headquarters and public offices. The city will be outfitted with vital utilities like high-speed internet, gas, water, and electricity, providing a seamless plug-and-play experience for both residents and investors. Mbah emphasized the partnership with CCCC, a top-tier construction company globally, along with the participation of UK consulting firms, reflecting the international knowledge supporting the initiative.

Moreover, he promised that in the upcoming year, locals would notice significant progress as structures begin to emerge. More importantly, comprehensive services are set to launch within 12 to 18 months, a development that will surely excite the audience. Feng Yu, the Managing Director of CCCC Nigeria, conveyed optimism regarding the collaboration with the Enugu State government. He remarked their aim is to introduce innovative Technology and advancement in the State. The project is progressing in stages, and through robust collaboration, they are confident in their ability to elevate this region to a world-class city.
