Kendrick Lamar set to become the first rapper to solely headline the Super Bowl.
American rapper, Kendrick Lamar will headline the Super Bowl halftime show, as announced by the NFL and Apple Music on Sunday. This will mark his second appearance at the event but his first time as the main act. Lamar previously performed with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige at the 2022 Super Bowl, a show that won an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special (Live). The 37-year-old Compton-born rapper is celebrated as one of hip-hop’s most innovative lyricists and made history in 2018 as the first hip-hop artist to win a Pulitzer Prize for music. Commenting on the announcement, NFL Head of Music Seth Dudowsky praised Lamar, stating, “Time and time again, Kendrick has proven his unique ability to craft moments that resonate, redefine, and ultimately shake the very foundation of hip-hop.”

New 2024 drama, Shogun makes history with 14 Emmy award wins.
Shogun made history at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sunday night, winning 14 Emmys—the most ever for a single season of a television series. The FX series, set in feudal Japan and centred on political intrigue, won awards in categories like costumes, makeup, editing, stunts, and cinematography. Néstor Carbonell also took home the Emmy for Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series and thanked the large number of crew members present, expressing his love for the collaborative effort. The awards were presented at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles during the second night of the two-night event, which honors categories not featured in the main Primetime Emmys. Shogun has already surpassed the record of 13 wins set by “John Adams” in 2008 and could add up to five more awards at the main ceremony on September 15.

Peacemaker season 2 scheduled for release in the second half of 2025.
The Season 2 of Peacemaker is set for release in the second half of 2025, as announced by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, following the July 11 release of the new Superman film. Gunn, who is also directing some episodes, shared the update on Threads, confirming that the season will arrive after Superman. This makes it the third entry in the revamped DC Universe, following the “Creature Commandos” series and the Superman movie. Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are moving away from the previous DC Extended Universe, but some elements will remain. Gunn has confirmed the entire Peacemaker team will return, including John Cena, Frank Grillo, Freddie Stroma, and Danielle Brooks. The series will take place after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter’s events influencing the story of Peacemaker.

Coel wins best guest actress at the Emmys for her role in “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”.
American actress, Michaela Coel won the award for Best Guest Actress for her role as Bev, a spy in the Prime Video series “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” The show, starring Donald Glover as John Smith, is a remake of the 2005 action-comedy featuring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Coel’s character works for a rival company to John Smith. She was not present at the ceremony to receive the award. Sarah Burton has been appointed as the new creative director for Givenchy.
Givenchy has announced its new creative director: British designer Sarah Burton, known for her tenure at Alexander McQueen from 2010 to 2023. A protégé of the late Lee Alexander McQueen, Burton famously designed Kate Middleton’s wedding dress in 2011 and was awarded an OBE in 2012. She will now oversee both men’s and women’s collections at Givenchy, the iconic fashion house founded by Hubert de Givenchy in 1952. Burton’s first collection for Givenchy will debut at Paris Fashion Week in March 2025. Expressing her excitement, Burton stated, “It is a great honor to be joining the beautiful house of Givenchy. I am excited to write the next chapter in the story of this iconic house and to bring my own vision, sensibility, and beliefs to it.”
