Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Project completed.

The Buhari administration has just completed the 700 megawatts Zungeru hydroelectric power project in Niger. The project, which is now ready for commissioning, was projected to cost about $1.3 billion and is now set to enhance the power supply within the surrounding communities. Niger State’s Gov. Sani Bello has since commended President Buhari on his efforts in ensuring the completion of the power project. The governor also noted that with all works completed, necessary measures were only being put in place at the National Council of Privatization.

Nigeria’s Ministry of Finance release statement on world loan.

Nigeria has been subjected to numerous loan cases over the last years. The Buhari-led administration has witnessed a huge increase in the external debt from $7.35 billion under Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan to $41.61 billion. Recent news published on various news websites indicated that the country was on the verge of another loan. However, the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, in a statement, indicated that the report of the FG preparing a loan bid to cushion the effects of the pending fuel subsidy removal was false.

H.E Geoffrey Onyeama, the Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs was said to have received a courtesy visit the United Nations’ Assistant Secretary-General and Special Adviser of the Secretary General on Solutions to Internal Displacement. With the continuous insurgency ravaging the country, especially in the northern region, it has become increasingly important to ensure more safety measures for the displaced people, whilst finding a wholesome solution to curbing the growing violence in the country.

Niger State Governor urge for more security presence.

The cases of insurgency continue to rise, affecting the social, economic and political discourses in the country. News of violence and death by bandits, especially in the northern parts of the country top the headlines consistently and while numerous citizens have cried to the government to salvage the security situation, no significant changes have been noticed. The Niger State Governor Sani Bello has also urged the federal government to deploy more mobile squads to the sensitive areas of Niger State.
