J. Cole reflects on the Drake-Kendrick beef in his new song, “Port Antonio.”
Months after the Drake and Kendrick Lamar feud cooled down, J. Cole has surprised fans by releasing a new song, “Port Antonio,” addressing the highly acclaimed hip hop beef. Cole, who first responded to Kendrick on his “7 Minutes Drill”, had quickly labeled the diss as “the lamest shit I ever did” and distanced himself from the conflict. While Drake and Kendrick’s respect for each other evaporated, Cole remained a reflective observer, acknowledging his role in escalating the drama with his verse on “First Person Shooter.” Despite public criticism, he stands firm on his choice to step back from the beef, emphasizing that the true purpose of rap is to share thoughts, not to ignite conflicts. The track concludes with a nod to Drake and a reminder to fellow artists about the responsibility that comes with their craft.
