Hip Hop star, Kendrick Lamar headlined the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, marking a triumphant moment in his ongoing feud with Drake. As the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22, Lamar took centre stage, delivering a high-energy performance alongside frequent collaborator SZA. The show opened with actor, Samuel L. Jackson portraying “Uncle Sam,” setting the tone before Lamar launched into “Squabble Up, “followed by” HUMBLE”., accompanied by dancers forming an American flag. Lamar and SZA performed “All The Stars” and Luther” before he tore through hits like “DNA” and “Euphoria”. The highlight came when he performed his Drake diss track, ”Not Like Us”, making direct eye contact with the camera as the crowd chanted “a minorrrrrrr.” Tennis star Serena Williams even joined the spectacle. Lamar also performed other hits like “Man at the Garden” and “Peekaboo”. This was his second Super Bowl appearance but his first as the solo headliner, making history in the process.

Canadian singer and songwriter, The Weeknd has earned his fifth No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 with Hurry Up Tomorrow, which moved 490,500 album-equivalent units in its first week, according to Luminate. This marks the biggest debut of his career, surpassing After Hours by 6,000 units, and the largest first-week total since Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department in May 2024. Of the total units, album sales accounted for 359,000, with digital sales at 183,000, CDs at 99,000, vinyl at 77,000, and cassettes at 1,000. Streaming contributed 171.5 million on-demand plays. The album’s strong performance cements The Weeknd’s dominance in the industry. Adding to the excitement, Hurry Up Tomorrow will receive a film adaptation produced by Lionsgate and directed by Trey Edward Shults. Starring The Weeknd, Jenna Ortega, and Barry Keoghan, the film is set to premiere on May 16, further expanding the album’s cultural impact.

Tom Cruise ignited excitement at the Super Bowl with a new teaser of the upcoming Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, the eighth and possibly final instalment in the long-running franchise.
