The app disappeared from Apple and Google app stores, and users were greeted with a notice referencing the ban. TikTok’s message highlighted President-elect Donald Trump’s promise to grant a 90-day reprieve after taking office Monday, stating, “We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok.” The unprecedented ban, targeting the Chinese-owned app and others like ByteDance’s CapCut and Lemon8, could reshape the U.S.-China relations, social media markets, and the livelihoods of millions reliant on the platform. Trump told NBC he would “most likely” announce the extension soon. For now, TikTok’s absence marks the first-ever U.S. ban of a major social media platform.

Pop singer, Justin Bieber appears to be working on new music after a long hiatus. On January 18, the Canadian singer shared photos of himself in a recording studio, singing into a mic with headphones on. Photographer Rory Kramer, credited for Bieber’s recent Instagram pictures, was tagged in the post. Just days earlier, Bieber posted a 24-second demo clip where he sang raspy lines accompanied by acoustic guitar. This potential comeback follows studio photos shared in October, when producer Mk.gee told The New York Times about collaborating with Bieber, describing him as “searching” and capable of turning anything he sings into pop music. If Bieber releases a new album, it would be his first since 2021’s Justice, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
