Shōgun wins 18 Emmys, breaks the all-time record for a single season of tv.

FX’s Shōgun made Emmy history by winning 18 awards, the most ever for a single season of television. The series, based on James Clavell’s novel and set in 17th-century Japan, earned 14 wins at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys and four more at the 76th Primetime Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series. Shōgun had already garnered 25 nominations, breaking the record previously held by HBO’s John Adams, which won 13 awards in 2008. The competition this year was fierce, with only The Crown having been previously nominated in the Outstanding Drama category, while other contenders like Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Fallout were newer to the field. Executive Producer Justin Marks thanked FX, Hulu, and the production team, celebrating the show’s unprecedented success and critical acclaim.
