Shōgun wins 18 Emmys, breaks the all-time record for a single season of tv.
FX’s Shōgun made Emmy history by winning 18 awards, the most ever for a single season of television. The series, based on James Clavell’s novel and set in 17th-century Japan, earned 14 wins at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys and four more at the 76th Primetime Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series. Shōgun had already garnered 25 nominations, breaking the record previously held by HBO’s John Adams, which won 13 awards in 2008. The competition this year was fierce, with only The Crown having been previously nominated in the Outstanding Drama category, while other contenders like Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Fallout were newer to the field. Executive Producer Justin Marks thanked FX, Hulu, and the production team, celebrating the show’s unprecedented success and critical acclaim. Shōgun’s triumph solidifies its place as a television phenomenon.

American rapper, Nicki Minaj is set to release Pink Friday 3, a new addition to her iconic album series. On September 16, Minaj announced that she scrapped plans for a deluxe edition of Pink Friday 2 and will instead drop Pink Friday 3, citing that her newly recorded songs are “too iconic” for a deluxe album. Anora joins Parasite as the only film to win Palme d’Or and a TIFF runner-up.
After much speculation, the top three winners of the 2024 TIFF People’s Choice Awards were announced, with The Life of Chuck by Mike Flanagan, Emilia Pérez by Jacques Audiard, and Anora by Sean Baker taking the honors. Anora, which previously won the Palme d’Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, secured third place, marking another milestone on its road to awards season. While the buzz around Baker’s chaotic dark comedy suggested a strong placement, it’s notable that Anora is only the second film ever to win both the Palme d’Or and place at TIFF, following in the footsteps of Parasite (2019).
‘ANORA’ has become the second film to be both the Palme d’Or winner and a runner-up for TIFF’s People’s Choice Award.
The first to do this was ‘PARASITE’
