Golden Eaglets on the verge of third Cup of Nations.

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets will make its 10th appearance in the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, scheduled to take place in Algeria. The Eaglets has failed to win the competition since 2007. Nigeria secured qualification for this competition after defeating Cote D’Ivoire in the WAFU B semi finals. As they surge forward in their quest to claim the Cup of Nations for third time, the Head Coach, Nduka Ngbade has however assured Nigerians that the team is fully prepared to compete in the tournament.

Recently, the Nigerian Under-15 Youth League was established, in partnership with Laliga, in a bid to enhance a continued growth in local and international exposure within the youth football community, as well as to facilitate capacity building for players and coaches. Since the establishment, the Youth League has witnessed immense growth and recently, the game between Kano Pillars Jnr versus Kwakwasiya Utd FC recorded a whooping 5000 attendance for the opening game which took place at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofarmata Kano.

Nigeria has continually looked forward to hosting another major sporting event since they last hosted the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in 2009, which they were second runner up. However, big news from sources j dictate that Lagos, Nigeria has been chosen to host the Pre-Olympics Qualifying Tournament, scheduled to host this August. As a result, Nigerian basketball is expected to return home this year. Everyone will be looking forward to, not just the thrill of the sports but also how the country can capitalize on this opportunity.

Nigeria’s Handball team loses placement match.

Nigeria’s handball team has witnessed massive improvements in recent times, tying their best ever finish at the International Handball Federation Men’s Emerging Nations Championship, after their win over Andorra. However, despite the improvements recorded in the competition, the team however lost their placement match against Great Britain , 30-20. The team had a 5-1 advantage in the first minute of the match. However, Great Britain was able to punish Nigeria for their unnecessary turnovers.
