Canadian rapper, Drake has escalated his legal battle with Universal Music Group (UMG), filing a federal lawsuit accusing the label of defaming him by promoting Kendrick Lamar’s diss track, “Not Like Us”. Filed in New York’s Southern District Court, the 81-page suit claims UMG spread a “false and malicious narrative” and engaged in unethical tactics to boost the song’s success. Drake, signed to UMG’s Republic Records, alleges the label used bots, pay-to-play schemes, and financial incentives to inflate the track’s streams on Spotify without public disclosure. He also claims UMG removed copyright restrictions, encouraging content creators to feature the song. This follows a prior petition in which Drake accused UMG of conspiring against him during his feud with Lamar, who is signed under UMG’s Interscope division. UMG denies the allegations, calling Drake’s claims “untrue” and “illogical.”
